Nagpur : SNDL unearths power thefts at 25 places, fines Rs 14 lakh

Nagpur : Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd (SNDL) conducted a special drive against power pilferage across the city and unearthed power thefts at 25 places. The SNDL imposed penalty collectively worth Rs 14 lakh on the consumers for power theft.

The drive was conducted at Kundanlal Gupta Nagar, New Mangalwari, Indira Gandhi Nagar, Vrundavan Nagar, and Noori Masjid areas of Binaki. A large number of police bandobast from Yashodhara Nagar Police Station was deployed during cracking several high consumption cases of power theft. Power thefts collectively worth three million units (MUs) was detected during the special drive. Offences were registered against the consumers under various sections of Electricity Act 2003.

A senior SNDL official informed that a total of 118 premises were checked during the drive for hook, meter, neutral cut, potential link cut, scroll button, service line tapping, terminal tapping, tariff miss used, meter referred to lab. Out of 25 power theft cases, 15 were of potential link cut, three each of service line tapping and terminal tapping and one each of hook, neutral cut, scroll button, tariff miss used and others.

“The drive would continue in the Distribution Franchise area as unauthorised power connection increasing load on the power infrastructure which resulted in the tripping of electric lines,” he said.
