Ganga crusader GD Agrawal dies in Haridwar

Nearly four months after he began his fast-unto-death for an ‘eternal’ Ganga on 22 June, IIT-Kanpur professor-turned environmental activist GD Agrawal passed away Thursday in Haridwar.

The 87-year-old IItain turned seer Ganga activist GD Agarwal was on indefinite fast for ban on mining and hydropower projects to save Ganga since June 22 demanding a ban on mining and hydropower projects in Ganga.Police forcefully admitted him to hospital but at last he died today due to heart attack.

G. D. Agrawal alias Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand was an prominant figure in the field of environmental engineers in India. He served as the faculty member of IIT-Kanpur, a member of the Indian Central Pollution Control Board to currently being a Sanyaasi. Agrawal was on a fast-unto-death since 22nd June demanding Modi government to act on its promises to save river Ganga.
