Tiger found dead in Chikhaldara forest

Nagpur : In a sensational incident, a tiger was found dead in compartment no. 13 near Motha village jungle under Chikhaldara Range of East Melghat Division of Amravati Territorial Circle on Friday afternoon. This is the second case of tiger death in Maharashtra this year. The first death of one-year-old female tiger cub occurred in Khursapar beat of Deolapar Forest Range in Pench Tiger Reserve on January 3.

Beat Guard P P Salve and Forest Labour Tukoji Nikhade were on routine patrolling when they noticed carcass of the tiger. They informed Chikhaldara Range Forest Officer C B Kherde about the incident. He immediately reached the spot along with staff for investigation. Similarly, Saipun Imam Sheikh, Divisional Forest Officer, and Sanap, ACF, also rushed to the spot.

Veterinary Officer from Paratwada also reached the spot The post-mortem of the tiger was done on Saturday as it couold not be done after sunset as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). However, the cause of death would be known after getting post mortem report. Prima facie it appears that the tiger died due to old age. As per forest officers, no injury marks were founds on the carcass of tiger. Sheikh said that he would inform about the cause after after getting post-mortem report.
