Nagpur: In a big boost to primary health care and Nagpur municipal corporation (NMC) Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC), Tata Trusts is all set to start operation of its state-of-the-art centralized pathology lab from August 13.
The laboratory will be exclusively for the civic body’s UPHC, which are also being developed in association with Tata Trust.
A NMC official told Tata Trusts will facilitate 21 types of tests at very low prices. “The laboratory has been developed at NMC’s Sadar Diagnostic Centre. It is fully equipped with high-end haematology and biochemistry analyser. Tests for pregnant women, subject to prescription from UPHC , will be free of cost,” he said.
The laboratory is part of the Model UPHC Project being implemented jointly by NMC and Tata Trusts. Under the same project, NMC, in association with Tata Trusts, is developing 26 UPHCs. Already, work on eight UPHCs has been completed and they have been opened for public.
The NMC official added nine more UPHCs will become operation within next two months, followed by remaining eight by december end. NMC is developing the uPHCs under the central government’s national urban health mission (NUHM). The centres have been developed as per guidelines of tata trusts . Also, modern facilities like computers, machinery and training to staffs is also being given by tata trust, he said.
