Nagpur: MACyCON 2020, The 3rd annual conference of Association of cytologists of Maharashtra(ACM) will be held on 8th & 9th of February at All India Institute of Medical Science, Nagpur under the leadership of Director & CEO of AIIMS, Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, SM. The conference is being jointly organized by AIIMs & VAPM (Vidarbha Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists) and will be attended by around 150 delegates from all over India.
It is a two day, specialty conference on cytology inclusive of CME & hands on workshop. On 8th February the conference will start with “5th Smt Sunanda B Shidham Memorial CME”, conceived by internationally renowned Pathologist Dr. Vinod B Shidham, Director of cytopathology, Wayne State Univ. School of Medicine & Detroit Medical Center, USA, in memory of his late mother Smt Sunanda B Shidham.
The theme of CME is to address the “Undetermined lesions in cytology”. The scientific program of CME consists of a lecture by Dr. Vinod B Shidham on the diagnosis of undetermined lesions in gynae cytology followed by a case-based panel discussion on diagnosing the undetermined lesions of different organs on cytology by the team of panelists from Mumbai and Nagpur. There will also be debates on interesting topics. As digitalization has grasped the whole world, it has entered the medical field also and will be explained by Dr. Shubhada Kane in her talk on ‘Digital Cytology’.
Post lunch there will be two parallel workshops with real slide viewing session on digital microscopes. 1st workshop is the introduction and training of novel “Cell Block making technique called as Cell Blockistry “. This technique was introduced by Dr Vinod Shidham himself & he will be demonstrating it at his hometown Nagpur followed by discussion on interesting cases.
The 2nd workshop which will we conducted parallel is on “Cervical Cytology”, to be conducted by Dr Jasvinder Bhatia from AFMC & her team. The delegates will be able to see slides of interesting cases themselves with experts to guide them and solve doubts.
The inauguration of the conference will be held on the 2nd day i.e. 9th february & will be presided by Padmashree Hon. Dr. Vikas Mahatme as Chief guest. The star attraction of the conference is the 1st Dr. Shobha Grover oration started in honor of Dr. Shobha Grover, a doyen in the field of pathology, by her students. The oration will be conferred on eminent personalities in the academic field of pathology and this 1st oration is being conferred upon Dr. Vinod Shidham, which will be attended by Dr. Grover herself along with her students.
The conference also consists of oral paper & poster presentations by delegates, a quiz for postgraduate students & many interesting talks on various topics in cytology.
The organizing team consisting of Dr. Rasika Gadkari, Dr. Nisha Meshram Dr. Fatema Kamal from AIIMS along VAPM office bearers Dr. Kishor Deshpande & Dr. Manjit Kaur Rajput are working hard to make this conference a huge success.

MACyCON was conceived by ACM, Maharashtra chapter of IAC with the aim of bringing cytologists of Maharashtra under one roof to give them an opportunity to share their professional experiences and challenges with their peers, thus strengthening the cytology fraternity, and helping them contribute more effectively towards patient care.
