Smruti Cinema to be closed permanently from Aug 30

Date:

Smruti Cinema, one of the favorite movie theatres of Nagpur as well as entire Vidarbha, is likely to be closed from August 30 this year.

Located at the centre of the city, Smruti Cinema was started by Rathi Group in 1985 on a leased plot. Sources said that the theatre has been fighting some legal issues as the land belongs to some other party and there has been pressure to close the theatre permanently. There had been reports since last few months that a multiplex would be constructed on the same place, sources said.

Though no official announcement has been made regarding the closure, sources said that the employees of the theatre have been informed about the August 30 deadline. Around 30 people are employed at the theatre and they all are worried as they will be left unemployed if the theatre downs its shutters.

The news of closing down of Smruti Cinema just a month after the closure of Regent Cinema has also raised many eyebrows.

Smruti Cinema has been visited by many celebrities from Bollywood including Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, Vidya Balan, Abhishek Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai and many others. Cricket team of India and other countries have enjoyed movie shows at this theatre.
