Reckitt, world’s leading consumer health and hygiene company, under its flagship campaign Dettol Banega Swasth India today launched India’s first and biggest Hygiene Olympiad – Dettol Hygiene Olympiad. Built on the fundamentals of good hygiene laying the foundation of good health, this Olympiad will reach 24 million children, motivating them to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills in the context of hygiene, making every day hygiene practices their second nature.

A natural extension to the Dettol School Hygiene Curriculum, the initiative further cements Reckitt’s belief in addressing hygiene gaps that are imperative in India’s journey to better health.

Powered by Dettol Banega Swasth India, the Olympiad is supported by the Dettol School Hygiene Programme’s outreach partners – Plan India, Sesame Workshop India, Gramalaya, Apollo Foundation, Amar Jyoti Yuvak Sangha, MAMTA HIMC, Balipara Foundation, Jagran, and the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA), along with Ernst and Young LLP (EY) as the technical partner and is curated by Indian Talent Olympiad. Open to children between 5 to 15 years of age, the Olympiad experience will help students understand the interdependency between hygiene, health and keeping loved ones protected.

An independent evaluation of the Dettol Hygiene School programme in 2021 has found a 57% Reduction in school absenteeism, over the 39% reduction found in 2020. In addition, children’s knowledge of handwashing has improved by 61% and their sanitation practice has increased by 62%. The Dettol Hygiene Olympiad will help build awareness among parents, teachers and children on addressing their hygiene literacy gaps and work towards further improving handwashing practices, helping further reduce school absenteeism and promote pro-hygiene behaviours.

The Dettol Hygiene Olympiad, under Reckitt India’s flagship initiative Dettol Banega Swasth India, will also Identify ‘Hygiene Champions/Leaders’ who will become advocates of good hygiene in schools and districts. These leaders will be given an opportunity to address vital topics like reduction in school absenteeism, reduction in illness, and living in a healthier and happier home.

The exams begin on 6th September 2022 and can be taken by children online or offline. Winners will be felicitated in person on 2nd October 2022.

The pandemic has made hygiene the new health, therefore, adopting and maintaining right hygiene practices have taken utmost priority in our lives. Since its inception, Dettol Banega Swasth India has been focusing on sensitizing children about six critical occasions for handwashing, through Dettol Hygiene curriculum program which includes washing hands after defecation, and the use of toilets; before eating; before preparing and serving food; before feeding infants/children; after cleaning a child’s bottom, and after coughing/sneezing during illness. Dettol Hygiene Olympiad will further engage children from across India in a fun way that motivates them to understand and follow right hygiene practices in their daily lives for a healthier tomorrow.

Bajrang Dal activist said Ranbir Kapoor made derogatory comments on ‘gau mata’ as he has said beef eating was good. “We won’t allow them to enter the Mahakal temple. We were only showing black flags, but police charged at us,” he said.

A ruckus broke out on Tuesday as Bajrang Dal activists stopped Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt from entering the Mahakal temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain citing Ranbir Kapoor’s past comment on beef-eating. Videos of police cane charging the protesters went viral while Ujjain CSP Om Prakash Mishra said the protesters started fighting with police officers. “We were making arrangements as some VIPs were about to visit Mahakaleshwar temple. During which some people started gathering here to protest against them. One of the protestors started fighting with police officers,” Mishra.

Police said they have taken action under section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code against a right-wing activist.

a Bajrang Dal activist said they were protesting peacefully showing only black flags to Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt who were scheduled to visit the temple, but police started cane-charging them. “We are protesting against Ranbir Kapoor and won’t let him enter the Mahakal temple. He made derogatory statements against our gaumata. He had said eating beef is good,” he said.

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were at the temple to offer prayers ahead of the release of their film Brahmastra. Director Ayan Mukherji, however, took darshan of the deity, temple priest Ashish Pujari confirmed to PTI.

Bajrang Dal workers raised ‘Jai Shriram’ slogans when Ranbir and Alia arrived at the spot to take darshan, a PTI report said. Bajrang Dal leader Ankit Choube said even Alia Bhatt said those who want to see her film ‘Brahmastra’ should watch while others who are not keen shouldn’t.

In 2011, Ranbir Kapoor while promoting his film Rockstar said he loved eating beef. “My family is from Peshawar, so a lot of Peshawari food has come with them. I am a mutton, paya, and beef fan. NMC makes arrangements for 390 artificial lakes at 204 different places in city for immersion purpose

With a view to promoting eco-friendly immersion of Ganesh idols, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has made available a web link for providing a facility to the citizens to know information about various artificial tanks prepared for immersion in ten zones in the city.

The citizens can visit the web link: https://www.nmcnagpur.gov.in//visarjan- location to know the immersion places nearer to their homes, said Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator of NMC, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, NMC has created 390 artificial tanks at 204 different places in the city covering all the ten zones.  It has created artificial tanks at various squares and grounds for immersion of Ganesh idols below four feet in height. It has also made arrangement for iron tanks at Futala, Sonegaon, Gandhisagar, Sakkardara and other lakes for immersion of idols as well as placed big urns to collect pooja waste materials. NMC workers and volunteers will collect such materials that would be used for producing fertilizer. Moreover, the corporation has put up barricades near the lakes and installing highmast lights at the immersion places.

Volunteers of Green Vigil Foundation will be present towards Airforce side at Futala lake, King Cobra Organisation at Sakkardara lake, CFDF at Sonegaon lake, Eco-Friendly Foundation at Ramnagar, Tejaswini Mahila Mandal at Empress Mills, Nisarg Vigyan Sanstha at Gandhisagar lake and Green Earth Organisation at Sonegaon side. NMC has kept ready its machinery for solving any difficulties during the ten-day Ganesh festival.

Indian cricketer KL Rahul and Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty are in a healthy relationship and the couple is reported to take a big step in their relationship.

The couple is expected to tie a knot by the end of this year or in the first week of January next year. They might hold the ceremony at Athiya’s father Suniel Shetty’s bungalow in Khandala.

People close to the couple have revealed that the two will tie the knot in the presence of their loved ones. Rahul and Athiya Shetty recently moved together moved into their new Bandra apartment recently. And now, it’s reported that they will get married soon. While the venue for the ceremony has been decided already, the dates will depend on KL Rahul’s schedule.

A report in Pinkvilla has claimed that Rahul and Athiya will be pronounced husband and wife soon. “It’s happening! Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul are going to get married soon. After talking to several people close to the couple, Pinkvilla has learned that Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul are indeed tying the knot. “Sources tell us that a famous wedding organizer along with his team visited Khandala to do a recce for the same. Ditching the 5-star Mumbai hotels, Athiya & KL Rahul have chosen to tie the knot at dad Suniel Shetty’s home- Jahaan in Khandala,” the report further stated.

Notably, Suniel Shetty had also recently confirmed that the couple will take the next step in their relationship as soon as they are free. The Khandala home is very close to Suniel Shetty’s heart. This home of Suniel & Mana Shetty was built 17 years ago. It is spread over a huge area and is a mix of earthy colours. The actor’s house stands amidst plush greenery while the interiors are also decorated with plants.

The magisterial custody of Shiv Sena leader and MP Sanjay Raut has been extended up to September 19. Raut was arrested on July 31 in connection with the Patra Chawl corruption case in Mumbai.

The PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court extended his custody for further enquiry into the case. . The Enforcement Directorate wanted extension of his custody as enquiry was not complete. Raut was granted eight-day ED custody and then magisterial custody. A journalist, who was editor of Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Samna’ is in jail for the last 35 days. Surprisingly he has not applied for bail so far.

Guru Ashish Compnay was granted contract of re-development (Slum Development) of Parta Chawl in Goregaon sub-ub of Mumbai. Raut was allegedly involved in granting increased FSI (Flood Space  Index) to the company. The scandal is estimated to be of more than 1000 crore. ED suspects transfer of Rs 55 lakh in the bank accounts of Sanjay Raut’s wife in this connection.  More information about property purchase of Sanjay Raut and his wife is being investigated.

Nagpur: In a major incident of fraud, six crooks cheated ICICI Bank of Rs 1.07 crore in Nagpur. Sitabuldi police in the city have booked the six accused but no arrest has been made in the case so far.

According to police, the accused hatched a conspiracy and submitted forged documents to get the loan of over Rs 1 crore sanctioned. The accused have been identified as Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Yusuf (28), a resident of Plot No. 94, Gauri Nagar, Kalamna; Naushad Ahmed Sheikh Kashyap Qureshi (33), Mohd Anwar Ansari Amjad Ali Ansari (38), both residents of Dobi Nagar, Mominpura; Irshad Ali Ajmat Ali (35), a resident of Uppalwadi; Abdul Hanif Abdul Majit Sheikh (22), a resident of Kamptee and Mushtaque Pyare Saheb Ashrafi (35), owner of RTC Contractor and Transport and a resident of Itwari.

The accused submitted forged documents of vehicles to receive the loan of Rs 1.07 crore from ICICI Bank’s Sitabuldi branch at Akashwani Square in August last year. The fraud came to light when the accused started defaulting EMIs of the loan.

On the complaint of Amit Virendra Kuchekar (42), Regional Head, Sales, ICICI Bank, Sitabuldi police have registered the case under Sections 420, 464, 468, 471 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and probing the matter further. No arrest has been made in the case so far.

Former Chairman of Tata Sons Cyrus Mistry died in a fatal road accident while en route from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on Sunday.

Mistry’s car hit a divider in Palghar district as they were travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car.

Here are some points about the accident-

  • Cyrus was accompanied by three other passengers including an eminent gynecologist who was behind the wheel, Dr. Anahita Pandole, her husband Darius Pandole and Darius’s brother Jehangir Pandole.
  • Anahita Pandole, a top doctor at Breach Candy Hospital, (who was driving the car) and Darius Pandole, the managing director and CEO of JM Financial Private Equity were in the front seat wearing seat belts survived the crash and suffered grievous injuries and have were immediately shifted to a hospital.
  • While, Cyrus and Jahangir Binshah Pandole (brother of Darius Pandole), both died. It is learnt that both were in the rear seat and were not wearing seat belt.
  • Mistry died on the spot, while Jehangir died during the transition after he was taken to the hospital.
  • Prima facie it looks like the car driver lost control. As per recollection of events by an eyewitness, a woman was driving the car and tried to overtake another vehicle from left side, but lost control and crashed into the road divider.
  • Mistry’s mortal remains are at a government hospital in Kasa. An Accidental Death Report (ADR) is being filed by the police.
  • Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said he has asked the state police to conduct a detailed investigation into the accident in which former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed.

नागपूर : पूर्व नागपुरात (Nagpur )महाराष्ट्रातील पहिल्या दिव्यांग पार्कला मंजुरी मिळाली असून, येत्या तीन महिन्यात पार्कच्या कामाला सुरुवात होणार आहे. याशिवाय ज्येष्ठ नागरिक आणि दिव्यांगांना नागपूर जिल्ह्यातील तीर्थक्षेत्रांचे दर्शन घेता यावे यासाठी लवकरच निःशुल्क ई-बस सेवा सुरू करण्यात येणार आहे. त्यासाठी तीन ई-बसेस नागपुरात आणणार असल्याची घोषणा केंद्रीय परिवहन व राज्य महामार्ग मंत्री नितीन गडकरी (Nitin Gadkari ) यांनी केली आहे.

यामध्ये एक डबलडेकर ई-बसचा समावेश असणार आहे. भारत सरकारच्या सामाजिक न्याय व सक्षमीकरण मंत्रालयाद्वारे ज्येष्ठ नागरिक आणि दिव्यांगांच्या सशक्तीकरणासाठी केंद्र सरकारच्या दिव्यांग सहाय्यता योजना आणि राष्ट्रीय वयोश्री योजना अंतर्गत दिव्यांग आणि ज्येष्ठांना सहाय्यक साधने वितरण करण्यात येत आहेत. नागपूर महानगरपालिकेच्या माध्यमातून साहित्य वितरणाचे शिबिर घेण्यात येत असून, या अंतर्गत नागपूरमधील लाभार्थ्यांकरिता सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल मैदान, ए.व्ही.श्री. ले-आउट लकडगंज येथे शिबीर घेण्यात आले. यावेळी नितीन गडकरी (Nitin Gadkari) बोलत होते.

गडकरी पुढे म्हणाले की, दिव्यांग आणि ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांच्या जीवनात आनंद देण्याचा हा प्रामाणिक प्रयत्न आहे. ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांना तीर्थ क्षेत्राचे दर्शन घेता यावे, याकरिता नागपूर-शेगाव अशी बस सेवा सुरू आहे. आता ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांना आणि दिव्यांगांना नागपूर ते आदासा, नागपूर ते माहूर, नागपूर ते धापेवाडा अशा तीर्थ क्षेत्रांचे दर्शन घेता यावे, यासाठी डबलडेकर ई-बस सुरु करण्यात येणार आहे. तसेच लवकरच ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांसाठी विरंगुळा केंद्र तयार करण्यात येणार असल्याचेही गडकरी यांनी सांगितले. याशिवाय पूर्व नागपुरातील दर्शन कॉलनीमध्ये सुरू होणाऱ्या विरंगुळा केंद्रांचेही लवकरच उद्घाटन करण्यात येईल, असेही त्यांनी सांगितले.

Nagpur: There is huge rise in variable cost at Koradi TPS unit 8 to 10 i.e. from 2.525 Rs/KWhr to 3.390 Rs/KWHr which comes out to be 0.865 Rs/KWHr i.e. 34.26%. Same is increased for Khaperkheda unit 1- 4 by 27.12%, Khaperkheda U5 by 20.2%, according to sources.

The sources said that this price is increased hugely at Koradi, Khaparkheda, Chandrapur, Bhusawal, Nasik where supply and use of imported coal, washed coal and RcR coal is in place. Whereas at Parli and Paras TPS only raw coal by rail mode is supplied and used hence variable cost is decreased at Paras and at Parli it has very slightly increased.

Landed cost of imported coal, wash coal and RcR coal is very huge as compared to raw coal by rail mode which reflects in per unit variable cost. This increase in cost is directly transferred to electricity consumers. People of Maharashtra state are being directly affected by this increase in cost. Consumers will see the difference in increased FAC in electricity bills next month, sources added.

According to sources, Mahagenco is also not getting benefits from use of this costlier coal. All parameters such as GCV difference, SPCC (Coal factor), Heat rate, specific oil consumption, and auxiliary power consumption have been increased drastically in FY 2022-23. This proves Mahagenco is not benefited from use of these costlier coal whereas there is loss of about Rs 1700 crore due to fuel cost disallowance as parameters are beyond the permissible limits imposed by MERC. Further, stock at TPS of Mahagenco has also not been increased.

This clearly proves that variable cost has been increased due to use of costlier imported coal, washed coal, RcR coal rather than raw coal by rail mode. And people of Maharashtra have to bear this increased cost in their electricity bills.

This GCV difference is on very higher side as compared to 120 limit from MERC, especially at Koradi, Bhusawal, Khaperkheda, Chandrapur where there is supply of Imported, wash and RcR is done. ARB GCV is increased on paper in favour of contractors. But actual received GCV reflects in bunker GCV hence this difference increased.

Actual is 2878Kcal/KWHr which has caused Rs. 958 crore loss to Mahagenco.

Total loss due to fuel cost disallowance is Rs 1214 crore.

Central Railway is taking a new step in digital India movement by introducing Aadhaar counter has been formally dedicated to service by Smt. Richa Khare, Divisional Railway Manager at Nagpur railway station.

It is being done in coordination with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). The trained railway staff will man the Aadhaar updation counters.

Indian citizens can avail the facility of getting new Aadhaar or updation of existing Aadhaar.

New Aadhaar enrolment and mandatory Aadhaar update (biometric for children etc.) facilities will be available for free and other optional updates like mobile number update, address change will be charged at Rs 50/-.

The facility has been started at Nagpur station from 02.09.2022  and  will be opened Monday to Saturday at 10:00 Hrs to 17:00hrs. (Except holiday)

According to reports, India has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the world’s fifth largest economy. India surpassed the United Kingdom in the final three months of 2021 to become the fifth-largest economy, relegating the United Kingdom to sixth place for the second time after doing so in 2019.

According to the report, the Indian economy was $854.7 billion in ‘nominal’ cash terms in the quarter through March, while the UK was $816 billion.

This was done on an adjusted basis, with the dollar exchange rate on the last day of the relevant quarter being used.

The report comes just two days after the government released GDP data for the first quarter, which showed that the Indian economy grew by 13.5% year on year.

While this figure was slightly lower than the RBI had predicted, the rate of growth was still among the highest among developing countries.

This fiscal year, India is expected to grow at a rate of around 7%.

Nagpur: Posing as an officer of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), a cyber crook duped a middle-aged man of more than Rs 1.06 lakh lakh on the pretext of collecting outstanding power bill online.

The victim, Sanjay Sudhakar Kundipurwar (50), a resident of Plot No 1010, Ashirvad Nagar, Sakkardar, received a text message on his mobile phone that the electric connection to his house would be snapped for non-payment of outstanding power bill. Soon the cyber crook pilfered Rs1.06 lakh from Sanjay bank account to the crook’s account with another bank. Realising that he was duped, Sanjay lodged a complaint with Sakkardara Police who later registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 66(d) of Information Technology Act, and started the probe.

The deceased student has been identified as Gaurav Raghorte while Divesh Nighot, Vedant Udapure, Tanmay Megangale and Aman Yadav have been monitored at AIIMS Nagpur.

According to police sources, all students had left their Khapri based college and were on their way to Nagpur in a Celerio car (MH/49/AS/3603). At around 1.30 pm, when they were crossing Air Force Officers Mess on Wardha Road, their car met with a mishap. The impact was so severe that all were seriously wounded in the incident. Gaurav reportedly succumbed to his injuries while others survived the incident, informed police sources.

Nagpur Smart City has bagged the award for its effective contribution in ‘Smart and Successful Pandemic Recovery’ by developing a Covid Bed Status App and donated to the Citizens of Nagpur during the hard time of COVID Pandemic. The award has been presented to the Nagpur Smart City CEO Shri Chinmay Gotmare (IAS) by the Smart Cities Council of India in a glittering function organized at Mumbai recently.

The Smart Cities Council of India hosted the 7th edition of ‘Smart Urbanation’ on August 26 2022 in Mumbai. The event was supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Government of India.

The Smart Project Awards were conferred in the various categories that recognize pioneering projects, ideas, and strategies for making cities in the country more livable, sustainable and economically viable. Around 33 Cities across the country submitted their nominations under different categories. Out of these, Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) wins the award for “Smart and Successful Pandemic Recovery”. During a Panel discussion on “Rethinking Smart Mobility – The new Mobility Landscape” in the said event, Shri Chinmay Gotmare, CEO Nagpur Smart City enlightened his views on the same, which have been appreciated by participant cities.

Laxman Narasimhan, a veteran in leading and advising global consumer-facing brands, has been named as the new chief executive officer of coffee giant Starbucks, joining a growing cohort of Indian-origin business leaders at the helm of global corporations.

Narasimhan, 55 was previously the CEO of United Kingdom-based Reckitt Benckiser, a multinational consumer health, hygiene and nutrition company.

Starbucks announced on Thursday that Narasimhan will become the company’s next chief executive officer and a member of the Starbucks Board of Directors.

Narasimhan will join Starbucks as incoming CEO on October 1, 2022 after relocating from London to the Seattle area and will work closely with Howard Schultz, the interim CEO, before assuming the leadership role and joining the Board on April 1, 2023.

Reckitt Benckiser said in a statement Thursday that Narasimhan will step down as Chief Executive Officer on September 30, 2022.

It said he has ‘decided for personal and family reasons to relocate back to the United States and has been approached for an opportunity that enables him to live there’.

In the statement, Narasimhan said that ‘he has been offered an opportunity to return to the United States and although it is difficult to leave, it is the right decision for me and my family’.

With this appointment, Nara-simhan joins a growing list of Indian-origin CEOs at the helm of United States-based global giants, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter head Parag Agrawal. Indra Nooyi had served as Pepsi Co’s CEO for 12 years before stepping down in 2018.

Schultz said that when he learned about Narasimhan’s desire to relocate, it became apparent that he is the ‘right leader to take Starbucks into its next chapter. He is uniquely positioned to shape this work and lead the company forward with his partner-centered approach and demonstrated track record of building capabilities and driving growth in both mature and emerging markets’.

Schultz, who helmed Starbucks for decades, said that ‘as he got the opportunity to get to know Narasimhan, it became clear that he shares the company’s passion for investing in humanity and in our commitment to our partners, customers, and communities’.

“The perspectives he brings will be a strong asset as we build on our heritage in this new era of greater well-being. I greatly look forward to our partnership over the coming months and years,” said Schultz. Narasimhan said he was humbled to join the global coffee giant.

“Starbucks’ commitment to uplift humanity through connection and compassion has long distinguished the company, building an unrivaled, globally admired brand that has transformed the way we connect over coffee,” said Narasimhan.

Narasimhan holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering, University of Pune, India.

He has an MA in German and International Studies from The Lauder Institute at The University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.

The Starbucks statement added that Narasimhan brings nearly 30 years of experience leading and advising global consumer-facing brands. Known for his considerable operational expertise, he has a proven track record in developing purpose-led brands. ‘Building on companies’ histories, he has succeeded in rallying talent to deliver on future ambitions by driving consumer-centric and digital innovations,’ it said. ‘Most recently, as Reckitt CEO, he led the company through a major strategic transformation and a return to sustainable growth,’ it said.

Describing Narasimhan as an inspiring leader, Mellody Hobson, Independent Starbucks Board of Directors’ chair said his deep, hands-on experience driving strategic transformations at global consumer-facing businesses makes him the ideal choice to accelerate Starbucks growth and capture the opportunities ahead of us.

His understanding of our culture and values, coupled with his expertise as a brand builder, innovation champion, and operational leader will be true differentiators as we position Starbucks for the next 50 years, generating value for all our stakeholders, Hobson said. During the transition period, Narasimhan will be fully immersed in the company, spending time with Schultz and the management team, partners and customers and gaining in-depth exposure to the brand, company culture, and Reinvention plan.

This will initially include Starbucks store immersions, visiting manufacturing plants and coffee farms, connecting with partners around the globe as well as Starbucks’ long-term business partners, Starbucks said. Schultz will remain in the role of interim CEO during this transition period, following which he will continue as a member of the Starbucks Board of Directors.

He will remain closely involved with the company’s Reinvention and act as an ongoing advisor to Narasimhan. Previously, Narasimhan held various leadership roles at PepsiCo, including as global chief commercial officer, where he was responsible for the company’s long-term strategy and digital capabilities.

He also served as CEO of the company’s Latin America, Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa operations, and previously as the CEO of PepsiCo Latin America, and the CFO of PepsiCo Americas Foods. Prior to PepsiCo, Narasimhan was a senior partner at McKinsey & Company, where he focused on its consumer, retail and technology practices in the US, Asia and India and led the firm’s thinking on the future of retail. Narasimhan is also a trustee of the Brookings Institution, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, served as a member of the UK Prime Minister’s Build Back Better Council, and is a member of Verizon’s Board of Directors.

The city’s traffic department has increased the fine to Rs 1,500 for those who install fancy number plates and unnecessary stickers on their vehicles.

In the city these days, many young people are seen riding bikes and driving cars with flashy numbers and stickers. They also manipulate the numbers so that it is impossible to determine what the actual registration number is.

According to the new orders, the traffic department has increased the fine for vehicles with such licence plates. The Motor Vehicles Act governs all aspects of automobiles. It includes provisions for vehicle registration, such as vehicle size, number plate colour, and number plate colour. Any deviation from the established regulations constitutes a violation of the act.

“The majority of the violations are seen on sporting bikes and cruiser bikes.” The riders creatively stick their names and the names of family members.

The number of violations is less this year compared to last year. Traffic cops deployed at squares across the city have been instructed to recover a fine of 1,500 from each driver violating the rule.”

The Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), India’s professional organization representing practitioners of obstetrics and gynaecology, today, announced its collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH)/Quality Council of India (QCI), India’s apex body for accreditation and quality promotion, to advance the Government’s vision to improve the quality of maternity services. This collaboration will ensure ‘One Nation One Standard’ where Maternity service providers (MSP’s) will be jointly assessed by NABH and FOGSI. 

This is a crucial quality-improvement sectoral collaboration aimed at reducing maternal mortality in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthening health systems for safer childbirth in India. Under the MoU hospitals and nursing homes having maternal care facilities, clinical standards will be assessed, ensuring consistent, safe, and respectful care for mothers during and after childbirth. This collaboration is envisaged to improve and standardize quality across all MCH facilities in the country, a landmark step in our evolving health system. 

Emphasizing the need for quality at the foundational level, Dr. Mahesh Verma, Chairman of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) said, “We are driven to develop a culture of excellence, enhance healthcare systems, and promote continuous quality improvement and patient safety. We are delighted to collaborate with FOGSI to enhance maternal health standards in the country with its flagship initiative, Manyata.”

Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) added, “Improving the quality of maternal healthcare in the country is certainly the need of the hour as India has one of the highest numbers of maternal deaths in the world. We strongly believe that it is imperative to lift the quality standards in maternal healthcare to be able to improve our health outcomes overall. This collaboration with FOGSI is a crucial step forward to strengthen the maternal health ecosystem across the country.”

Dr. S. Shantha Kumari, President, FOGSI, and Treasurer, FIGO, said, “Embedding standards for quality of care in health systems hold great potential in reducing maternal mortality and achieving the health-related SDG targets. However, in India, despite the increase in the number of women delivered in facilities, maternal mortality remains alarmingly high, suggesting gaps in quality of care. The current SRS data suggests that India’s maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has improved to 103 in 2017-19, from 167 in 2011-13, highlighting improvements in our health systems but we still have a lot of ground to cover. With around 50% of women in the country delivering in private maternity hospitals, there is an urgent need for the adoption of clinical standards by the obstetric community. We welcome the collaboration with NABH that will only promise better outcomes and health for women in India.”

Dr. Hrishikesh D. PaiPresident-Elect, FOGSI, and Chief Administrator, FOGSI-Manyata initiative, added, “We are delighted to come together with NABH towards improving the quality of maternity care as well as access to this care with Manyata so that every woman in the country receives quality services wherever and whenever she seeks care. This collaboration is a significant milestone and will strengthen our commitment to providing equitable and high-quality maternal care in India.”

Dr. Hema Divakar, National Convener, FOGSI-Manyata initiative said, “A decade of efforts has shown us that it is worth investing in strengthening maternal health care systems so as to bridge the gap between knowing and doing. Upskilling of existing human resources has made a huge impact on the quality of care in the Manyata accredited centers.”

This collaboration will involve quality care sensitization workshops for Maternity Service Providers (MSPs) aimed at creating a pool of FOGSI specialists to assess facilities for NABH quality accreditation and assessments of MSPs by NABH as per FOGSI’s Manyata standards.  

Although the share of India’s institutional deliveries has increased to 88.6% in 2019-2021 (NFHS 5), the country has one of the highest numbers of maternal deaths, globally. A considerable proportion of maternal mortality is in fact due to preventable causes such as obstetric haemorrhage, pregnancy-related infections and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. To address this, the Government of India has increasingly prioritised quality maternal care by instituting quality improvement programmes in public health facilities. However, with a significant proportion of women choosing private care to deliver, the private sector plays a critical role in providing quality maternal care to women. This highlights the need for a national system to oversee the quality of maternity care among private providers and thereby improve maternal health outcomes.

To bridge this gap, FOGSI has been driving Manyata since 2013, a programme that promotes the adoption and practice of 16 clinical standards based on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards of quality care for antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care. The programme evidence by Ariadne Labs (Affiliated to Harvard) shows a 70% increase in Manyata facilities being able to manage life-threatening complications, such as obstructed labour, pre-eclampsia and/or eclampsia, and postpartum haemorrhage greatly improved. Manyata’s footprint spans 22 states across a network of 1500 facilities in the country. It is a first-of-its-kind initiative which is building the capacities of healthcare workforce and providing certification, thereby setting a benchmark for maternal quality care. Manyata has laid the foundation for self-driven awareness and demand in Quality improvement amongst facilities and with this collaboration endeavours to scale together with NABH. The initiative is powering innovation through social health entrepreneurs and institutional business models as part of its sustainability and scale-up strategy. It has the potential to be replicated in nations with similar socio-economic demographic and mixed health systems. 

Hence, the sectoral collaboration between NABH and FOGSI can create a paradigm shift in the maternal health ecosystem by complementing each other’s efforts to reach more mothers and create a more significant impact.

In addition to enrolling young Agri-entrepreneurs, Bayer understands the major role women play in shaping their families and the agriculture value chain. Their role as influencers in buying decisions makes them the perfect partners to scale up the program. 

The program will be further fueled by the adoption of smartphones and evolving digital technologies that have created new touchpoints with farmers. The Sahbhaagis have been trained and equipped to recommend the right solutions to smallholder farmers as per local farm conditions. The smallholder growers get access to Bayer products digitally with the assistance of the Sahbhaagi This program is currently active in 24 states, across more than 470 districts and 1980 sub-districts.

In a big relief for consumers, the oil marketing companies (OMCs) have slashed the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for commercial use.

According to reports, Oil Marketing Companies have reduced commercial the price of the 19-kg LPG cylinder for commercial use by Rs 91.50, effective from today, September 1, 2022.

As per the announcement, a 19 kg commercial Indane gas cylinder will now cost Rs 1885 as against the old price of Rs 1976 07. Similarly, a commercial LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1995.50 instead of Rs 2095.50 in Kolkata, Rs 1844 instead of Rs 1936.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 2045 rupees in Chennai instead of Rs 2141.

The reduction in price will provide some relief to restaurants, eateries and tea stalls, etc which constitute the largest user segment of the 19 kg cylinder.

However, there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders as of now. It may be noted that the OMCs announce LPG price changes twice a month, once at the beginning of the month and once during the middle of the month.
