Nagpur: The Crime Branch of Nagpur police on Thursday busted an online IPL cricket betting racket in the Lakadganj area and took three bookies into custody. Cops caught them red-handed while accepting bets on a T20 cricket match being played between SunRisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
The cops seized Rs 32,700 cash, three smartphones worth Rs 65,000, and a two-wheeler worth Rs 50,000 from them after raiding a place behind Good Luck WineShop at Satranjipura. The bookies were using an online App for accepting bets.
The accused have been identified as Prasanna alias Bablu Rajkumar Jain (52), a resident of House No 852, Near Gandhi Statue, Satranjipura, Gajendra Namdeorao Bhishikar (56), a resident of Sharda Chowk, Jabalpur, Kotwali, and Neeraj Kanhaiyyalal Amesar (30), a resident of Brijdham Apartment, Chhapru Nagar Chowk. Another accused Boma alias Ashish Kubde, a resident of Maskasath, managed to give a slip to the cops.
The Crime Branch Unit-IV team registered a case under Sections 12 (A) of the Gambling Act, read with Section 66 of the Information Technology Act against all the four accused at Lakadganj Police Station.
The arrests were made by Senior PI Kishor Parvate, API Deepak Maske, and constabulary staff under the supervision of DCP (Detection) Chinmay Pandit and ACP (Crime) Roshan Pandit.
