Oman Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Nagpur

Date:

Nagpur: An Oman Air aircraft on the way to Bangkok made an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport after a 45-year-old Omani passenger developed breathing problems. He was shifted to KIMS Kingsway Hospital in the city, according to a report.

This is the second foreign national being hospitalized in the city after an emergency landing in recent times. Last year in August, a Biman Bangladesh pilot suffered a heart attack in mid-air leading to an emergency landing at Nagpur.

According to the report, Ejaz Shami, spokesperson of KIMS Kingsway Hospital, said heart attack has been ruled out in the Omani national’s case and the patient has been diagnosed as suffering from respiratory distress. The patient will have to remain at the hospital under observation for 2-3 days.

Officials involved in the process said the entire evacuation happened in the least minimum time so that the patient could get prompt medical care. The patient, his wife and a relative have landed at Nagpur. He was rushed to the hospital soon after landing, as the passports were kept by the Indian authorities. Rest of the immigration formalities were completed subsequently. Foreign nationals landing due to medical emergencies in mid-air are given temporary stay permits, which can be extended on medical advice. At present they have a three-day permit, said the report.
