Nagpur: After missing several deadlines Hyderabad’s Evey Trans Company is now delivering nine of the 40 electric cars to Nagpur Municipal Corporation. NMC received a letter just two days before its last deadline from an electric bus manufacturing unit, which was supposed deliver 40 ebuses by June 15.
According to the letter sent by the company to NMC, the company has asked the civic body for officials to inspect the buses starting June 15. According to the letter, once inspection is complete, buses will be transported to Nagpur. NMC’s Transport Department said that Hyderabad has promised to deliver 25 additional buses in July. Five of the remaining buses will be joining the Aapli Bus fleet prior to August 15. Reports claim that the company has already delivered a prototype of the 40-electric midibus to NMC.
40 ebuses were delayed due to a pandemic, which caused a shortage of spare parts. The company also shared the progress of infrastructure works at Wadi’s depot. It also reported that civil and electrical infrastructure work were progressing and asked the civic body to arrange high-tension lines in a timely manner.
NMC will also organise an open contest for citizens to help NMC determine the colour and theme of ebuses to induct into the city bus fleet. NMC has already placed orders from 144 electric buses from a UP firm and another 15 from Nagpur Smart City.
Radhakrishnan B., the municipal commissioner said that cash prizes will be awarded to contest winners. All of them (159 ebuses) are air conditioned. NMC decided to maintain the diesel-run bus fare at the same level as air conditioning buses. Reports state that the diesel and air-conditioned Aapli Buses ticket prices will not change.
