Nagpur : A bike-borne man was crushed to death by a rashly-driven private bus on Umred Road near Bada Tajbagh on Friday morning. After crushing the motorcyclist to death, the bus dragged the motorcycle for several metres. The motorcyclist was wearing a non-ISI mark helmet which broke into pieces in the accident. The deceased was identified as Ravindra Vasudeorao Thakre (40), a resident of House No. 209, Shanivari, Imambada Road, near Cotton Market.
Ravindra’s wife was staying at her parents’ home in Bahadura village on Umred Road after she met with an accident last week. The accident occurred near Chamat Chakki Chowk when Ravindra was heading towards his in-laws’ village on the motorcycle (MH-49/T-1945) at around 12 noon.
When Ravindra was passing through Umred Road, a private bus (MH-49/J-905) came from behind in great speed and brushed the motorcycle. Ravindra lost control over the bike due to the sudden jerk and fell on the road. He came under rear wheels of the bus and was crushed to death within fraction of seconds. The bike got entangled in the bus and was dragged for several meters.
After seeing the accident, a large number of passers-by ran towards accident spot. As Ravindra was crushed by the bus and blood was oozing from the body, no one dared to rush him to hospital. He breathed his last within a few seconds after the accident, said police.
Nandanvan and Sakkardara police staff rushed to the spot and sent the body to hospital for post-mortem. Traffic movement on Umred Road was affected for an hour. Soon after the accident, the bus driver – Dipak Chure (40), a resident of Bhivapur – fled the spot and surrendered in Nandanvan police station. Police said, Ravindra was wearing a non-ISI mark helmet that was also broken in the accident.
Ravindra was a teacher in a school in Sadar area while his wife was taking tutions at their house. His younger brother is doctor and lives in Mumbai. Nandanvan police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of IPC against the bus driver.
