Easter 2018 Wishes : Date, Significance, SMS and Wishes

The Easter 2018 weekend is here, and we can’t wait to indulge in all the festive sweet treats. This year Easter would be celebrated on 1st April 2018. Observed three days after the Good Friday, Easter is celebrated to mark the spirit of rebirth and life. While Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion.

According to the legends, Christians started celebrating Easter to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and his great sacrifice for the mankind. The festival has many motifs that symbolise new life like the tradition of making Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. Here is a brief origin of the festival and the celebrations.

Easter 2018 wishes : Significance Of Easter

The significance of Easter is tied to the great prophecy made in the ancient Christian scriptures. According to the prophecy, God would send a Messiah, who would be persecuted for the sins of mankind and rise on the third day. An Easter celebration has its root in the early 2nd century A.D. According to historians, the early Christians began remembering the Resurrection every Sunday following its occurrence. In A.D. 325, the Council of Nicaea set aside a special day just to celebrate the Resurrection. There was much debate as to what should be the day to celebrate Easter, as many sects were of differing thoughts. Since some wanted the celebration to be in line with events in Old Testament, and some wanted it to be dissociated with Judaism. The council laid out two rules. First was of independence of the Jewish calendar, and the second was the worldwide uniformity of the day. Through the years it was decided that the following Sunday after Good Friday would be the day to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, the saviour.

Instagram reenables GIF sharing feature in stories

Instagram was very quick to remove GIFs from Stories after it was discovered that Giphy — the company responsible for overseeing the GIF library — had let a racist image slip through. (Snapchat also removed GIFs as a result of the incident.) But now the ability to add GIFs to your Instagram Stories is being restored, according to TechCrunch.

Giphy removed the racist GIF sticker immediately after being alerted of its presence. “After investigation, a bug was found in our content moderation filters affecting stickers,” the company said. That bug has since been resolved, and Giphy claims it has re-moderated the entire GIF sticker library four times to be absolutely sure there’s no other inappropriate content.

It’s also tightening future moderation as a result of this incident with “another level of Giphy moderation before each sticker is approved into the library. This is now a permanent addition to our moderation process.”

It seems satisfied with those precautions and added measures. “We’ve been in close contact with Giphy throughout this process and we’re confident that they have put measures in place to ensure that Instagram users have a good experience.” The GIF stickers haven’t returned to my Instagram app just yet, but it shouldn’t be long before everyone can get back to including them in their stories.

Fryday first look poster : Chichi makes a comeback with fryday

The first look poster of Govinda and Varun Sharma’s Fryday is here. The poster has a very cartoonish tone to it with Chichi (Govinda) and Choocha (Varun Sharma) promising epic fun and mad moments.

Govinda, the man who could effortlessly pull-off some of the silliest, most bizarre and over-the-top comedic elements back in the 90’s, is finally back with what he does best- COMEDY! Collaborating with another funnyman, Varun Sharma, the uproariously funny Choocha from Fukrey and Fukrey Returns, Govinda will be seen in an out-and-out comedy film almost after a decade. His last film of the genre being the David Dhawan dud, Do Knot Disturb, all the way back in 2009.

Directed by Abhishek Dogra, the film is called FryDay and is all set to release on the 11th of May, 2018. The tagline of the film reads- “Jhoot Becho”, which gives us a slight glimpse of the fact that it could be a film about con and deceit.

check out the poster below:

Speaking on the occasion, Fadnavis said, “If we can make street food vendors aware of the importance of food safety and hygiene, it will lead to a brighter future for them. This initiative is a great way to not only ensure healthy food for consumers, but also to enable street food vendors to sustain better livelihoods.

Innovation to reduce sugar by 30%

Nestlé launched Milkybar Wowsomes, the first chocolate using Nestlé’s new structured sugar to reduce sugar by 30 per cent versus comparable bars.

The new Milkybar Wowsomes achieves the sugar reduction using only natural ingredients and with no sweeteners. It has milk as the number one ingredient, contains crispy oat cereal and is a source of fibre.

Researchers at the company changed the structure of sugar using only natural ingredients. They created an aerated, porous sugar that dissolves more quickly in the mouth. This allows someone to perceive the same sweetness as before while consuming less sugar.

Nestlé is committed to further advancing the nutritional credentials and wholesomeness of its children’s confectionery.

Now, in 2018, with the launch of Milkybar Wowsomes, the brand is offering a new alternative with 30 per cent less sugar.

Hyderabad: Indigo flight suffers tyre burst while landing

Air traffic in Bengaluru was adversely affected following a mishap at the Hyderabad airport, where an IndiGo aircraft suffered a tyre-burst.

At least 20 flights to and from Bengaluru were affected as the Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport turned non-operational last night, following the mishap.

At least 10 flights scheduled to reach Hyderabad airport between 10:28 pm to 2:22 am last night were diverted to the Bengaluru International Airport. Four other Hyderabad-bound planes from Bengaluru returned mid-route.

The stranding of the IndiGo aircraft at the Hyderabad airport for at least four hours caused a cascading effect, as several flights scheduled to reach the Bengaluru airport had to be diverted as the terminals were already handling the diverted Hyderabad-bound flights.

At least four flights from Bengaluru were diverted to Chennai, and one each to Mumbai and Coimbatore, the airport officials said.

The mishap at Hyderabad airport was caused after the IndiGo’s 7117 flight, ferrying 73 passengers, suffered a tyre-burst at around 10:25 pm on Wednesday. The flight was had taken off from Tirupati airport at 8:55 pm.

Mahavir Jayanti 2018 : History, Celebration, Rituals & Wishes

Mahavir Jayanti 2018

Mahavir Jayanti is the most important Jain festival. It celebrates the birth of Saint Mahavir in a small town called Vaishali.

The importance of the festival owes to the fact that Saint Mahavir was the founder of Jainism as a religion. It is a peaceful religion that cherishes simplicity. Their core values are such that they do not believe in killing even an insect.

The mood of this festival is also without any kind of drama, just a quite celebration with respect to their saint. There are dominantly four types of Jains: Digambars and Svetambaras, Deravasis and Sthanakvasis. The worship rituals of Jains are not very elaborate or striking as their leader Mahavir was against idol worship in its ideal sense. Out of the four sects only Deravasis go to temples, while the others regard their ideal faith to be purest when internalized.

History & Significance

Mahavir Jain was born in the 5th century B.C. He was born in a palace of Vaishali to King Siddhartha and Queen Trisala. During the pregnancy, the queen is said to have had dreams of auspicious nature. The number of dreams varies in belief of each sect. After running his kingdom faithfully till 30 years of his age, the great saint gave up all luxuries and comforts of palace for penance. For twelve long years the saint had been under penance. At this time he was enlightened. He was known to be the 24th and the last tirthankara to have received enlightenment. He gave up all redundancies of life. He would eat on his palms refusing to use a plate. He also gave up wearing clothes. Getting rid of these rudimentary materials he focused on the real things and the real meaning of life. He preached the importance of truth and non-violence along with the message of not owning anything and not stealing. He later formulated all his teachings into a religion that he names Jainism.

Celebrations And Rituals

The festival is celebrated throughout the country among Jain communities. Although they believe in simplicity and avoid grandiosity, there are some significant ceremonies that they uphold.

One of the most significant traditions of this day is the visit to various tirthankar statues and temples. There are processions with pictures and images of Mahavir. The temples have varied pujas to honor the statue of Mahavir by flowers, rice, fruits and abhishek it with milk. There are places of gathering or temples where the core values and message of Mahavira is preached. Some places his life history is also told. Some of the believers also observe a fast on this day. Kheer is prepared in most houses as a sweet dish.

Pics : MS Dhoni’s First residential cricket academy to be launched in Nagpur

MS Dhoni cricket academy Nagpur Album 1

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is launching his cricket academy in a few months’ time at the picturesque ground of Gaikwad-Patil International School at Dongargaon, around 15 kms from the city. The legendary cricketer, who is regarded as one of the world’s best finishers of the game of all time, has already launched branches of his academy in various cities. Boys and girls in the age group of 7 to 19 years will get world class coaching from the experts.

Nagpur-based SGR Sports Academy has joined hands with MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and Gaikwad-Patil International School to start the residential cricket academy in September.

Announcing the launch of MS Dhoni Cricket Academy, managing director Mihir Diwakar, also a former India Under-19 and Bihar cricketer, said the entire coaching plan has been designed by Dhoni and he will also spare some time from his busy schedule to visit the residential cricket academy to share his experience with the budding cricketers frequently.
Diwakar, a former medium pacer, said it will be the fifth centre of Dhoni Academy in India. The Dubai franchise of Dhoni Academy has also been launched recently. “We have already started at Lucknow, Varanasi, Noida and Bokara but this will be the first residential academy. The trainees of the academy will study at the Gaikwad-Patil School and stay in their premises. We are looking to get admission of around 150 kids,” said Diwakar while addressing a press conference on Monday.

Diwakar, who has played with Dhoni for many years, said they will make sure everything is in order before starting coaching programme for the youngsters.
“The school ground is very beautiful. Ten practice wickets will be prepared and academy will have all the modern equipment. We will have an expert coaching panel to look after the trainees. Kids above seven years will be enrolled in the academy. To promote women’s cricket, the first 11 players will be given admission free of cost at the academy,” said Diwakar.

Mohan Gaikwad added that the school has the hostel facility for around 400 students and initially they will have a five-year agreement with the Dhoni Academy.

Head of SGR Sports Academy Mangesh Raut said the academy players will be given opportunities to play the matches at national and international level. Watch 102 Not Out Trailer : The duo is back after 27 years as quirky father and son

Watch 102 Not Out Trailer : The duo is back after 27 years as quirky father and son

There are old people, then there are old people. In the recently released trailer of 102 Not Out, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor explore the two vastly different sides of being in the last leg of your life. Helmed by Umesh Shukla, this unusual father-son story seems to be a quirky, side-splitting comedy.

It begins with a 102-year-old father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, who is full of life and wants to be the oldest person alive on earth. Rishi Kapoor plays his 75-year-old son who is living a dull life without much to look forward to. Most of the household decisions are taken by the father who has a boisterous and overpowering personality. The son is suffering from an inner guilt, at least it seems so. The twist in the tale comes when the father suddenly announces that he is going to send his son to an old-age home and he is doing so happily.

The trailer is full of light moments that would bring a smile to your face. In fact, there is a love angle involving Rishi Kapoor too. It seems his wife is still alive but they are living separately. Amitabh’s father wants to fill that breach but will he succeed? The trailer is full of slice-of-life moments and the fact that a child will be a child to parents, even if the age is 75.

102 Not Out is an adaptation of a Gujarati play by Saumya Joshi that goes by the same name. While Shukla who previously helmed the Akshay Kumar starrer Oh My God! directs this laugh riot, Joshi has been credited as the writer.

The film is planned for worldwide release on 4 May 2018.

Nasa delays the launch of its next-generation space telescope

NASA has delayed the launch of its next great space observatory, the James Webb Space Telescope, until no earlier than May 2020 — nearly a year later than planned — due to the need for more testing of the telescope’s intricate systems and setbacks, including tears in the tennis-court-size sun shield, the space agency announced on March 27.

Top officials said Wednesday that more time is needed to assemble and test the James Webb Space Telescope, which is considered a successor to the long-orbiting Hubble Space Telescope.

It’s the latest in a series of delays for the telescope, dating back a decade. More recently, Webb was supposed to fly this year, but last fall Nasa bumped the launch until 2019. “Simply put, we have one shot to get this right before going into space,” explained Thomas Zurbuchen, Nasa’s associate administrator of science. For such a highly complex machine designed to “look at the universe in a way that we’ve never seen it,” there can be no shortcuts, he stressed.

“All the observatory’s flight hardware is now complete; however, the issues brought to light with the spacecraft element are prompting us to take the necessary steps to refocus our efforts on the completion of this ambitious and complex observatory,” NASA Acting Administrator Robert Lightfoot said in a statement.

NASA originally hoped to launch the James Webb Space Telescope in 2018 but delayed it until 2019 last September due to delays in the observatory’s assembly.

The potential for more issues arose in February, when a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office warned that the telescope faced a high probability of more delays that could push the telescope beyond its budget cap. In 2001, Congress assigned the telescope a cost cap of $8 billion prior to launch.

NMC to start compounding of illegal constructions in the city

NMC

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will start compounding of illegal constructions in the city. The civic body will give six months’ time to citizens or developers to apply for regularisation of their excess construction not in consonance with existing development control regulations. The general body has also reduced the application charges from Rs 5,000 to minimum Rs 500.

NMC office-bearers were little skeptical about utility of these directions issued by the Urban Development Department of State Government and apprehended that due to stringent conditions laid down, not more than 5 percent constructions could be regularised. Therefore, local body will frame its own rule for regularisation of excess and unauthorised constructions in the city and send it for State’s nod.

Ruling Party leader Sandip Joshi said, it is impossible for a citizen with modest means to pay Rs 5,000 application fee for the house situated in barely 500 sq ft. Therefore, NMC should not charge more than Re 1/sq ft for the houses upto 2500 sq ft while Rs 2/sq ft for the houses situated on plot size admeasuring more than 2,500 sq ft. The regularization rates for the application in respect of commercial establishments should be Rs 2/ sq ft. NMC should appoint a senior and expert officer to frame the rules for regularisation of the illegal construction in congested areas keeping in mind the ground realities of orange city. We will knock the doors of the State Government to get its nod for these regulations.

Former Mayor Pravin Datke said, the government resolution of October 7, 2017 regarding regularization of illegal construction is useless in Nagpur’s context. Only 5 percent illegal construction may regularized through this GR and hence separate rules are necessary to address cases of excess constructions within Nagpur city. NMC should appeal to State Government for special amendment in the directions. Praful Gudadhe Patil also raised the issue of old congested areas and stated that these directives would remain only on paper.

Municipal Commissioner Mudgal said, the State Government has issued GR on October 7, 2017 and it is binding on local body to announce the scheme for the compounding of the illegal construction within six months. He briefed the meeting about details of the regularisation scheme and how it is beneficial for the citizens to make their excess constructions legal by paying premium as determined by the Government.

Baggage Management Technology at Nagpur International Airport

sita baggage tracking sita baggage management

Global airlines IT services solution major SITA will provide its check-in, boarding and baggage tracking technology to Nagpur International Airport, which will allow it to handle rapidly increasing passenger traffic.

The Nagpur airport is operated under a joint venture company, MIHAN India Limited (MIL), in which Maharashtra Airport Development Company and Airports Authority of India holds 51 per cent and 49 per cent stake, respectively.

The airport is expected to accommodate up to 14 million passengers once completed in 2035, according to SITA.

As part of the new agreement announced between the two partners at the SITA Air Transport Summit in Jaipur on Friday, MIHAN will deploy SITA’s common-use technology, enabling airlines and their handling agents to access their IT applications in real-time on shared common-use equipment.

The two-day annual event concluded on Friday. SITAs common use terminal equipment (CUTE) and common use self service (CUSS) allows any airline to use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk for passenger check-in and bag drop.

“These solutions will allow the Nagpur airport to cater to increasing traffic without having to invest in building additional infrastructure,” SITA vice president for Indian subcontinent, Eastern & Southern Africa, Maneesh Jaikrishna said.

At the same time, the airport authorities will be able to provide best-in-class facilities for airlines and passengers alike, he said adding the tie-up with the Nagpur Airport is part of the company’s commitment to making India not only one of the biggest aviation markets, but increasingly more efficient and passenger friendly.

According to the company, the implementation baggage tracking solution SITABagManager will help MIHAN accurately tracking passengers bags and significantly reduce the number of cases of baggage mishandling.

“As an airport operator, it is essential we have the right technologies in place to make sure the operations are highly efficient from day one and that they are future-proofed for our growth. SITAs technology no doubt will support MIHANs requirements” MIHAN senior airport director VS Mulekar said.

Maharashtra government may bring law to check copying in exams: Vinod Tawde

Copying in exams

Mumbai : The Maharashtra government said today that it will consider bringing in a law to check copying by students during exams and will also take strict action against those who leak the question papers.

School education minister Vinod Tawde made an announcement to this effect in the Legislative Council while replying to a debate, initiated by Vikram Kale (NCP), on the spate of incidents of copying in the recently held exams of Classes 10 and 12 in the state.

The minister also warned of stringent action against the officials who change the designated examination centres at the last minute.

The Maharashtra State Board every year conducts the exams of Classes 10 and 12, also referred to as the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, respectively.

This year, there have been several complaints of students copying during the exams and the leakage of question papers.

Replying to the debate on the issue in the Upper House, Tawde said, “Strict action will be taken against the teaching and non-teaching staff found guilty of indulging in leaking question papers.”

He urged the MLCs, specially those representing the teachers constituencies, to support him in taking action against the erring teachers, even if the latter were the voters of the House members.

The minister said the government will tell the Board to print an additional set of 25,000 question papers only for the centres where the question papers have been leaked.

The government cannot change the leaked question paper sets all over the state, he said.

Tawde also said that the government will probe claims made by Kale about two candidates being made to sit side by side at an SSC exam centre in Nagpur district.

“The government will consider bringing in a separate legislation to deal with the scourge of copying during the SSC and HSC exams,” he said.

The minister said that copying during examinations was on the rise due to competition for marks, and the middlemen were taking undue advantage of the situation.

“The government will take strict action against copying during the SSC and HSC exams,” he asserted.

The legislators often make pleas for setting up examination centres close to villages, other than the already designated and approved ones, he noted.

Strict action will be taken against the Board officials who change the already designated examination centres at the last minute, he said.

Soon, find parking spot, report road jam on traffic app

Nagpur : After launching WhatsApp complaint number and Twitter handle to address traffic-related problems, Nagpur traffic police are designing an indigenous mobile application (traffic app) for the first time in an effort to make life easy for motorists and other road users.

From instantly registering complaints regarding haphazardly parked vehicles causing traffic jams, getting information of a towed away vehicle to finding the nearest parking spots, the app, according to Nagpur traffic police, will be a resourceful information provider for the distressed  motorists and the commuters.

The app, which is being developed by an in-house tech team of the traffic police, is expected to be launched in a week or two, across all operating systems. Though DCP traffic Chaitanya S refused to divulge anything about the concept, sources said : “The idea is to provide instant information to citizens on the go and also encourage them to be part of this citizen-police connect. The app will be comprehensive and user-friendly. During peak hours, the department receives many complaints of the traffic jams.”

“With the app, all android phone users will get updates about the congested roads and the alternate routes they can use.Besides this feature, the app will also give details of towed away vehicles.

When a vehicle is towed away, the occupant of the vehicle has to just feed in the number of the vehicle via the app and details of offence along with the address of the traffic post where the vehicle is kept will be displayed.Apart from this, to ease parking woes, commuters will get details of the nearest parking spot when they open the app and search location details through the maps.

Google Apps Are Slowly Being Blocked From Uncertified Android Devices

Google appears to be clamping down on uncertified builds of the Android Operating system. Developers are reporting that they are unable to log in to Google accounts while using unverified firmware; a move that appears to force OEMs to provide a more consistent Android experience.

Developers on unverified versions of Android have reported that they are unable to sign into Google’s services through their devices. Instead, all they get is a warning message explaining what needs to be done.

The open source nature of Android allows, in theory, just about anyone to build their own version of the operating system. Which is pretty much why every manufacturer has an in-house variation.

Google apps

However, these manufacturers are expected to comply with a set of rules set out in the Compatibility Definition Document, and then pass a Compatibility Test Suite. Doing so will allow them to pre-load Google apps suite into the device. Of course, until recently, failure to comply would simply result in nothing bad actually happening. Aside from users having to sideload the apps instead of having them pre-installed.

This move seems like a better method of exercising some control over Android, while still allowing developers and OEMs to continuing with their own customisation work. It would also clamp down on less scrupulous manufacturers who take liberties with the security of their operating system.

On the other hand, it is going to be a whole lot more troublesome for those who prefer to install the own ROMs. Seeing that every new build will have to be registered separately; not to mention the 100 device ID limit on registration.

Smriti Irani takes 'Chota Bheem' jibe at Rahul, mocks Congress for deleting its app

On Monday, Union Minister Smriti Irani took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, saying he had asked people to delete the NaMo app, instead Congress had deleted their own app.

Smriti Irani wrote on Twitter: “Ye kya @RahulGandhi ji it seems your team is doing the opposite of what you asked for. Instead of #DeleteNaMoApp, they have deleted the Congress App itself.”

She also said: “@RahulGandhi ji, even ‘Chhota Bheem’ knows that commonly asked permission on Apps don’t tantamount to snooping.”

Firing a fresh salvo, Rahul, in a tweet alleged that the NaMo app secretly records the user’s location, audio, video, contact information and other personal data.

Earlier, the Congress Party president Rahul Gandhi equated the former to the “Big Boss who likes to spy on Indians.

The Congress president had urged people to delete the Narendra Modi app.

He also accused Prime Minister Modi of ‘forcing’ 13 lakh NCC cadets to download the mobile application.”Modi’s NaMo App secretly records audio, video, contacts of your friends and family and even tracks your location via GPS. He’s the Big Boss who likes to spy on Indians. Now he wants data on our children. 13 lakh NCC cadets are being forced to download the APP #DeleteNaMoApp,” Rahul tweeted.

The Congress party appears to have taken their app ‘With INC’ off Google PlayStore. A cursory search for the app on App Store also fails to throw up any results for the Congress app.

Anushka Sharma starrer Pari to be remade in Tamil

Anushka Sharma Pari

Actress Anushka Sharma received positive reviews for her latest release Pari. She played the role of a woman possessed by an evil spirit. Now, if latest reports are to be believed, the horror drama will be remade in Tamil. According to a source, the producers have loved the film and the announcement regarding the Tamil remake will be made soon. It is indeed good news for Anushka.

A source close to the development said, “Quality horror stories work in this market and the producers here have loved Pari. The offer on the table is a big one too and only adds to the revenue of Pari. An announcement is expected to happen as soon as the deal is locked. It is a huge success for Anushka.”

The source added, “Pari became a success because of its script and the willingness of a superstar to take a huge risk to back content that was aimed at redefining the horror genre in India. Everyone has taken notice of this gutsy decision.”

Pari, starring Anushka Sharma in the lead role, was directed by Prosit Roy. The supernatural horror film had music by Anupam Roy.

The script has a good shot at making it big in Kollywood since the industry is obsessed with the horror genre these days.

Siddharth’s Aval, a horror film that released a few months ago, turned out to be a hit at the box office.

The actress never shies away from experimenting. She has proved her versatility with many films. Pari was Anushka’s first release after marriage and her third film as a producer. Clean State Films has earlier bankrolled NH10 and Phillauri.

On a related note, the actress is currently occupied with the work of Varun Dhawan starrer Sui Dhaaga. She will also be seen in Anand L Rai’s Zero alongside Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan. Anushka was last seen in Jab Harry Met Sejal.

WhatsApp Payments Gets a New Feature, Lets You Scan QR Code to Send Money

Scan QR Code

WhatsApp updates for its Android beta testers have shown off some new features. Android beta users with WhatsApp Payments enabled will now see an option to scan QR code for payments. This is in addition to the recently added ‘Send to UPI ID’ feature, and adds more functionality to the payments function of the world’s most popular messaging app. Other WhatsApp features reported to be in the recent Android beta updates, though unfortunately disabled by default, include Advanced GIF Search and Search Stickers.

How to use WhatsApp Payments QR code scan feature

Let’s start with the new Scan QR Code option – available on WhatsApp version 2.18.93 through the Google Play Beta programme – the feature lets users make payments by scanning QR codes. WhatsApp Android beta users will need to go to Settings > Payments > New Payments > Scan QR code. You will now be directed to the QR code scanning option that will ask you to enter the amount you wish to send and it will also ask for UPI PIN for verification.

Scan QR codeAs yet another digital payments option in India, WhatsApp in February had launched its payments service in India in beta for select Android smartphones as well as iPhones. Later it added the “Send to UPI ID” feature to make it easier for users to directly send across payments to unique UPI IDs without going into conversation threads. However, the app lacked the QR code payments feature which is present in rival apps like Paytm. Now, the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp has introduced this feature.

WhatsApp Payments is the company’s first attempt at the digital payments front in India. Within a few days after launch, WhatsApp Payments had been accused of not offering a secure platform and not adhering to UPI’s interoperability characteristics. After rolling out an improved visibility feature as the Send to UPI ID button, the app now has the QR code option as well.

In separate news, as per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is work on an Advanced GIF Search feature in the 2.18.93 update, but the developers have “kept it disabled for development reasons and it will be enabled in next releases.” The feature lets users search GIFs in various categories, such as Trending, LOL, Love, Sad, Happy, and Dancing.

WhatsApp is work on an Advanced GIF Search feature

The update will also include starred GIFs, as per the report. Similarly, another report said that the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.18.90 brings Search Stickers feature that allows users to search stickers in the doodle view.

Chipko Movement

Google honours 45th Chipko Movement anniversary with a doodle

Today’s ‘Google Doodle’ marks the 45th anniversary of the forest conservation initiative called the Chipko Movement.

Who doesn’t know about the famous tree-hugging movement? Chipko movement found momentum in 1970s and derived its name from the way people embraced trees symbolising protection of forest from being cut.

The word ‘Chipko’ is Hindi for ‘to stick to’ and the way people expressed solidarity with the movement was by surrounding trees and linking their hands together around it, to physically prevent them from being chopped down.

The original Chipko Movement dates back to the 18th century. A large group of people from the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan resisted felling of trees by hugging them.

In modern India, Chipko-Movement started in April 1973 in Uttar Pradesh’s Mandal village in the upper Alakananda valley. Soon it spread to other Himalayan districts of the state. The Chipko-Movement was triggered by a government decision to allot forest land to a sports goods company. Angered by the move, villagers formed circles around the trees to prevent them from being cut. The Chipko-Movement, leaded by local women, was spearheaded by Chand Chandi Prasad Bhatt and his NGO Dasholi Gram Swara Sangh.

Chipko Movement

Inspired by the success in Uttar Pradesh, the Chipko-Movement spread to other parts of the country. Some of the key figures that were part of the Chipko Movement were Dhoom Singh Negi, Bachni Devi, Gaura Devi and Sudesha Devi.

Gandhian activist Sunderlal Bahuguna gave a direction to the movement and his appeal to Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, resulted in the ban of cutting trees.

Android users can still autoplay videos if they’ve added the site they’re visiting to their device’s home screen, according to 9to5Google, a Google news and rumors website.

The new function will be available to all Chrome users soon through an automatic update. You can download it early here.

Google originally planned to add these changes with its Chrome 64 update, which arrived in January. That update included an option to mute autoplay videos but wouldn’t do it automatically, according to The Verge.

“Google’s additional steps will mean that autoplay videos with sound blasting out of your speakers should be a thing of the past, and you can always take the extra step of completely muting a site if you happen to click and interact and the sound turns on,” The Verge reported.

According to Mashable, Chrome 66 will also include a function that helps “websites better tailor media streaming resolution to capabilities of the device that’s accessing them.”
