China: Lockdown imposed in Fenyang after Covid cases skyrocket

China: Lockdown imposed in Fenyang after Covid cases skyrocket
China: Lockdown imposed in Fenyang after Covid cases skyrocket

China lockdown: Chinese cities were imposing fresh lockdowns and travel restrictions after the number of new daily COVID-19 cases tripled during a weeklong holiday, ahead of a major Communist Party meeting in Beijing next week.

The latest lockdown started on Monday in Fenyang city in northern China’s Shanxi province after a preliminary positive case was found in citywide testing the previous day, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

In the nearby Inner Mongolia region, the capital Hohhot announced that outside vehicles and passengers would be prohibited from entering the city starting on Tuesday. Hohhot has recorded more than 2,000 cases over about 12 days.

China is one of the few places in the world still resorting to harsh measures to keep the disease from spreading.

The long-ruling Communist Party is particularly concerned as it tries to present a positive image of the nation in the run-up to a once-in-five-years party congress that starts on Sunday.

Travel was down during an annual National Day holiday that began October 1, as authorities discouraged people from leaving their cities and provinces. But the number of new daily cases has still grown to about 1,800 from 600 at start of the break.

Leaders don’t want a major outbreak to cast a pall over the congress, but their strict “zero-COVID? approach has taken an economic toll, particularly on small businesses and temporary workers. Many in China hope the pandemic policy will ease after the meeting.

Outbreaks have been reported across the country, with the largest in Inner Mongolia and the far-west Xinjiang region. Both have been recording several hundred new cases a day.

Both Shanghai, where residents endured prolonged lockdowns earlier this year, and the national capital Beijing have had a small but growing number of cases. Two Shanghai districts announced closures of cinemas and other entertainment venues last week.

Lining up for a free virus test several times a week has become the norm for many Chinese, with Beijing and other cities requiring a negative test result within 72 hours to enter parks, office buildings, shops and other public places.

Why do people get breast cancer?

Breast cancer happens when normal cells in the breast change and grow out of control. Breast cancer is much more common in women than in men. But men can get the disease. Women with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop breast cancer. A risk factor is something that may increase the chance of getting a disease.

Risk factors that cannot be changed

Age: The chance of getting breast cancer increases with age. Most women are over 60 years old when they are diagnosed.

Personal health history: Having breast cancer in one breast increases the risk of getting cancer in other breast. Also, having certain types of abnormal breast cells increases the risk of invasive breast cancer.

Family health history: Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease.Having one first-degree relative (mother, sister or daughter) with breast cancer approximately doubles a woman’s risk. Having two first-degree relatives increases her risk about 3-fold.

Genetic risk factors:About 5–10% of breast cancer cases are thought to be hereditary, resulting directly from gene defects (mutations) inherited from a parent.

Dense breast tissue: Women with denser breast tissue (as seen on a mammogram) have more glandular tissue and less fatty tissue, and have a higher risk of breast cancer.

Previous chest radiation: Women (as children or young adults) who had radiation therapy to the chest area as treatment for another cancer (Hodgkin’s disease or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) have a significantly increased risk for breast cancer.

Risk factors that can be changed/lifestyle-related factors

Being overweight or obese after menopause:The chance of getting breast cancer after menopause is higher in women who are overweight or obese

Lack of physical activity:Women who are physically inactive throughout life may have an increased risk of breast cancer

Drinking alcohol:Studies suggest that the more alcohol a woman drinks, the greater her risk of breast cancer

Breast-feeding: Some studies suggest that breast-feeding may slightly lower breast cancer risk, especially if breast-feeding is continued for 1½ to 2 years

Breast cancer early detection

Early detection means using an approach that lets breast cancer get diagnosed earlier than otherwise might have occurred.

Screening

Screening refers to tests and exams used to find a disease, such as cancer, in people who do not have any symptoms.

The American Cancer Society recommends these screening guidelines for breast cancer

  • Yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health
  • Clinical breast exam (physical examination of the breast done by a doctor) every year for women 40 and over
  • Clinical breast exam about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s
  • Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to doctor. Breast self-exam is an option for women starting in their 20s

Some women – because of their family history, a genetic tendency or certain other factors should be screened with MRI in addition to mammograms.

Screening mammogram

A mammogram is an x-ray picture of tissues inside the breast. Mammograms can often show a breast lump before it can be felt. They also can show a cluster of tiny specks of calcium. Lumps or specks can be from cancer, precancerous cells or other conditions.

Breast self-exam

It involves the woman herself looking at and feeling each breast for possible lumps, distortions or swelling.

Can breast cancer be prevented?

There is no sure way to prevent breast cancer. But, there are things all women can do that might reduce their risk (those risk factors that are under our control)of getting breast cancer.

  • Adhere to regular physical activity
  • Reduce your lifetime weight gain by eating fewer calories and getting regular exercise
  • Avoid or limit alcohol intake

Women who choose to breast-feed for at least several months may also reduce their breast cancer risk. Avoiding hormone therapy after menopause can also help avoid raising the risk.

Qatar World Cup to be Lionel Messi’s last

Qatar World Cup to be Lionel Messi’s last
Qatar World Cup to be Lionel Messi’s last

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi said in a conversation with Sebastián Vignolo that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be his last.

‘This will be my last World Cup — for sure. The decision has been made,’ Messi said in the conversation.

‘I’m counting down the days until the World Cup. ‘The truth is, there’s a little anxiety, saying: ‘Well, we’re here, what’s going to happen? It’s my last one, how’s it going to go?’. On one hand, I can’t wait for it to arrive but I’m also desperate for it to go well,’ he added.

‘We’re at a very good moment, with a very strong group, but anything can happen at a World Cup,’ he explained. ‘All the matches are difficult, that is what makes a World Cup so special because the favourite are not always the ones who end up winning or even doing as well as you expect.

‘I don’t know if we are the favourites, but Argentina in itself is always a candidate for history, for what it means. We are not the favourites, I think there are other teams that are above us.’

Messi has been in red hot form this season, both for club and country, with Argentina currently on a 35-game unbeaten streak, stretching back to 2019.

The last international competition Messi won was the Copa America last year when they defeated Brazil in the final. The World Cup, however, is a different beast altogether, with Messi having gotten to the final in the 2014 edition but losing out to Germany.

He will surely look to rectify if this is indeed his last World Cup.

Happy Diwali 2022: Wishes, Quotes, Messages, & Images

Diwali, which is also called the Festival of Lights or Deepavali, is a joyful five-day festival celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains across the globe. It takes place in the Hindu month of Kartik, which tends to be around October and November. This year, Diwali will take place from October 23, 2022 to October 27, 2022. However, the biggest day of the celebration will be on October 24, 2022. People who observe Hinduism also ask for blessings from the goddess Lakshmi on this day, and may also enjoy a feast and plenty of sweets to mark the occasion.

The main idea behind Diwali is good triumphing over evil, and light conquering darkness. That’s why another part of the Diwali celebration involves people bringing light into their lives with fireworks, candles, and lanterns.
