WhatsApp bans 26 lakh bad accounts in India as amended IT rules take shape
Meta-owned WhatsApp on Tuesday said it banned over 26 lakh accounts in India in the month of September in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, which are now being amended to put more responsibili- ties on social media platforms.
The messaging platform, which has nearly 500 million users (according to third-party data) in the country, received 666 complaint reports in September in India, and the records “actioned” were 23.
“In accordance with the IT Rules 2021, we’ve published our report for the month of September 2022. This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform,” a company spokesper- son said in a statement.
The platform banned over 23 lakh bad accounts in India in August. Under the upgraded IT Rules 2021, major digital and social media platforms, with in excess of five million users, have to publish monthly compliance reports.
Meanwhile, in a major push towards an open, safe, trusted and accountable Internet, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has notified some amendments aimed at protecting the rights of “Digital Nagriks”.
Currently, social media intermediaries are only required to inform users about not uploading certain categories of harm- ful/unlawful content. The amendments impose a legal obli- gation on intermediaries to take reason- able efforts to prevent users from upload- ing such content. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that protection of constitutional rights of the Indian citizens is a must.
The show is going to take place in the Bouffage Comedy Club on Friday that is 4th of November at 8:00 pm. Fernandes will be coming to the city and performing for the 3rd time.
Daniel Fernandes said “ Alive & Vaccinated marks my return to the stage after the SECOND lockdown and I have a LOT to say!”
“This show is my second comedy special, fresh out of the pandemic, served hot. It’s spontaneous comic relief for any comedy buff looking to get out of the house and have a good (and safe) time.” Fernandes added.

Internet was shocked by Ashneer Grover’s absence in the new Shark Tank 2 teaser
Following the phenomenal success of its debut season, Shark Tank India is back with a brand-new season. The Indian counterpart of the American business reality television series aids aspiring entrepreneurs in obtaining funds to realise their entrepreneurial aspirations.
The essential capital is contributed by seasoned investors and business professionals known as “Sharks.” The show’s debut season was a huge hit with viewers since it gave Indian television some much-needed newness.
The Sharks, who evaluate the concepts put forth by the contestants and decide whether or not to invest, were another element that was essential to the ground-breaking success of Shark Tank India 1.
While each of the Sharks had unique attributes, Ashneer stood out for the audience the most because of his unapologetically direct nature. His theatrical lines were so popular that they were turned into memes.
Ashneer is not depicted in the commercial for Shark Tank India 2, which has confused online viewers.
Ashneer, the Shark who was arguably the most well-liked, has been replaced by Amit Jain, CEO and co-founder of the CarDekho Group.
Following threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is believed to be behind the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, the state government has upgraded the security of Bollywood actor Salman Khan to Y+.
Similar cover is being given to actor Anupam Kher, and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis after assessing their threat perception. This means four armed guards in different shifts will protect each of these personalities. Salman now receives regular protection from the Mumbai police.
The security cover has been categorised by the state’s intelligence department based on the potential risks to the lives of eminent personalities. The state has also provided X category cover for Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar—he will be guarded by three personal security officers in three shifts. The cost of the security is borne by the protectees, said sources.
The Mumbai police and the state government have major concerns over Salman Khan following inputs from the Delhi police and the arrest of some members of the Bishnoi gang in connection with the Moosewala murder case by the Maharashtra police. The cops have also shared reports in this regard with the state home department. Salman was recently granted a weapon licence.
Sources said the police from Punjab, Delhi, and Maharashtra have discovered that gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar had planned fatal attacks on Salman Khan in Mumbai. In fact, they attempted twice, one outside his Bandra home during his birthday celebration in 2017 and another at his Panvel farmhouse in 2018. “Security is upgraded or degraded by the state and centre based on threat perceptions. For example, as a result of recent life threats to
businessman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambanis, their security was upgraded to Z+ from the Z category, and their other family members received Z security,” said an officer.
Sources Anupam Kher’s heightened security was the fallout of threats he received after the release of the film The Kashmir Files, while Akshay was granted security as he was being targeted on social media based on his nationality and other threats. Industrialist Ajay Piramal has been given Y+ security based on threats and his relations with the Ambani family. His son Anand, who too will get Y+ cover, is married to Isha Ambani.
Sources said Amruta Fadnavis recently received threats on social media. Also, being a part of the family of deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who is also a top BJP leader, she has received numerous threats. Uddhav Thackeray’s PA Milind Narvekar’s security has been upgraded from Y+ to Y+ escort, which means two more guards added to his security. He had security cover since 2005 which was made X category in 2019 and later upgraded to Y+. Now, it has been further strengthened based on threat perceptions and the recent Sena revolt.

Tata Group chief responds to Gadkari’s letter, says ready to invest in Mihan
Nagpur: With the political atmosphere in Maharashtra heated up over Tata Group’s proposed Airbus project in Nagpur’s Mihan moving to Gujarat, there is some comforting news for Nagpur. Tata Group is ready to invest in Mihan. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has responded to Union Minister for Transport Nitin Gadkari following his letter seeking an appointment for Vidarbha Economic Development (VED) Council members who would brief him on investment opportunities in Vidarbha region for the Tata Group, according to media reports.
Earlier, Gadkari had sent a letter to Chandrasekaran pointing out there is huge investment opportunity at Mihan in Nagpur. Necessary infrastructure for business expansion is available at Mihan. Road, and Rail services are also available. Therefore, various projects like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Titan Industry Voltas Ltd can come to Nagpur, Gadkari had stated in his letter.
In the letter dated October 19, Chandrasekaran says, “Our teams will definitely be in touch with VED members as we evaluate new investment across the group.” He also expressed a wish to meet Gadkari.
On October 7, Gadkari had written to Chandrasekaran that a number of business opportunities can be explored especially in the Mihan project which has land available in both Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and non-SEZ areas. The letter was based on inputs provided by VED. Gadkari’s letter had referred to the business opportunities in general in Nagpur and not related to the Tata-Airbus project which is being set up in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Gadkari’s letter said there is 3,000 acres of land comprising both SEZ and non-SEZ areas. The Tata Group companies can enjoy the advantages of Nagpur like overnight connectivity to 350 districts in six states, lower rates of land, manpower availability and warehousing facility. Air India, Vistara and Air Asia can cut costs by making Nagpur a hub for operations and night parking. Even as Air India already has an MRO in Mihan, considering Tata Group’s foresight, more MROs can be planned here, the Union Minister had pointed out.
Now, Gorewada Zoo Safari to be a costly affair from Nov 15
Nagpur: Visiting the Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur for Safari will now be a costly affair as the tourists will have to pay more from November 15. The Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) has decided to restore the original fare structure.
When the Indian Safari, spread over 115 hectares, was inaugurated on January 26, 2021, the fares were kept at Rs 300 per person on weekdays, and Rs 400 on weekends and public holidays when there is a huge rush.
According to reports, from November 15, for air-conditioned buses, visitors will be charged Rs 300 on weekdays plus a convenience fee (payment gateway charges), and Rs 400 on Saturdays and Sundays, and public holidays. Similarly, Rs 200 will be charged for canters on weekdays and Rs 300 on weekends.
The park is closed on Mondays for maintenance. The FDCM has appealed to visitors to go in for online bookings to avoid last-minute disappointment. There is a consistent rise in the number of tourists as compared to last year. A month-wise comparison shows that the number of visitors has gone up in 2022 by over 6,000 every month as compared to 2021.
While restoring the original fares, FDCM has also put certain restrictions. If tickets are booked by payment through a debit or credit card, the bank charges will be borne by the tourists.
However, concessions for students will continue. School students will get 50% concession and college students 25% on weekdays only. Besides, coaching classes, homes for the aged, orphanages, and education institutes for divyangs will also get sops, the reports said.
The Mumbai Traffic Police had given time to all vehicle owners who do not have seat-belt facility for all to install them by the deadline of October 31.
The order was issued on October 14 following the amendment to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act’s Section 194(b)(1), which has mandated that any person driving without a seat belt or carries passengers not wearing the same shall be liable for punishment.
From Tuesday, all motor vehicle drivers and commuters in such vehicles on Mumbai roads must compulsorily wear the seatbelts or face punitive action under the laws.
Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) Chairman Emeritus and ex-Member of Parliament, Y.P. Trivedi lauded the move as “very positive from the safety aspect” but feels enough time was not given to the vehicleowners to implement it.
He suggested that the police and transport authorities should adopt a lenient attitude with the offenders at least till December 31, and thereafter clamp down as per laws on the violators as many of the old vehicles still don’t have seat-belts in the rear seats.
Last month, Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari had declared that henceforth wearing seat-belts would be mandatory for all passengers in a car failing which penalty would be imposed.

Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan have been named captain of India’s T20I and ODI squads respectively for the tour of New Zealand, which gets underway November 18.
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rested, Rishabh Pant has been appointed vice-captain of both squads, while in a huge takeaway, the T20I set-up sees the return of young pacer Umran Malik. Barring Kohli and Rohit, Dinesh Karthik and Mohammed Shami are the only other big names that are missing, with the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Siraj set to usher Team India into the next era.
Also returning to the T20I fold are Shreyas Iyer and Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm chinaman bowler, Kuldeep, last played against South Africa at home where he impressed with his wrist-spin, picking up six wickets from three matches including a best of 4/18. Iyer on the other hand, was drafted in India’s T20 World Cup squad as a reserve and will look to give his career a fresh start as he returns to a country where he performed well on his last tour. Iyer had scored 103, 52 and 62 in the three ODIs even as India were blanked 0-3. In T20Is, he had scored 153 runs from five games, including scores of 44, unbeaten 33 and 58 not out.
Umran’s return is one that takes the cake though. The 22-year-old pace sensation, who was left out of India’s T20 World Cup squad will return having played just three matches for India – two against Ireland and one against England. There has been a huge hue and cry about Umran potentially deserving a place in the World Cup squad but the selectors decided otherwise. With a plethora of legendary fast bowlers – such as Wasim Akram, Brett Lee and Dale Steyn – being vocal in their support for Umran, here is the rookie pacer’s chance to have a crack at the BlackCaps batters in chilly New Zealand conditions.

Almond Consumption May Benefit Some Gut Microbiota Functionality, Study Finds
INDIA, October 2022 – Scientific progress in understanding the human gut microbiome thrills experts in nutrition and gastrointestinal health. Researchers know that diet affects the gut microbiome in ways that benefit health and disease prevention, but they are still discovering the mechanisms of how this happens. New almond research may add another piece to the puzzle. A clinical study investigated how gut microbes break down almonds to produce butyrate, a specific microbiota product associated with several health benefits.
New research found that consuming almonds significantly increases butyrate, a type of beneficial short-chain fatty acid (SCFA), in the colon. Butyrate, which is produced by microbes in the gut when they digest fiber, is the primary fuel source for colonocytes, the cells that line the colon, and may play a role in multiple processes related to human health, including improving sleep quality and fighting inflammation, and has been associated with a lower risk of colon cancer,. Almond consumption also significantly increases stool output. Regular stool output is associated with a well-functioning gastrointestinal system.
A team of researchers led by Professor Kevin Whelan from King’s College London, set out to determine the impact whole almonds and ground almonds have on the composition of gut microbiota, gut microbiota diversity and gut transit time. The study was funded by the Almond Board of California.
“Part of the way in which the gut microbiota impact human health is through the production of short-chain fatty acids, such as butyrate. These molecules act as a fuel source for cells in the colon, they regulate absorption of other nutrients in the gut, and they help balance the immune system,” explained Kevin Whelan, PhD, RD, Professor of Dietetics, King’s College London.
In this trial, researchers recruited 87 healthy adult participants, males and females, aged 18 to 45 years, who described themselves as regular snackers enjoying 2 or more snacks daily. Participants were consuming a typical diet that was lower in fiber than recommended and screened extensively for exclusion criteria. Each group comprised 29 participants; group one received 56 g/day (about 2 oz./day) of whole almonds, group two 56 g/day (about 2 oz./day) of ground almonds (almond flour), and the control group ate energy-matched snack muffins (2/day). Participants were required to take their study snacks instead of customary snacks, and they did this twice daily for 4 weeks. They drank at least 100 mL water with each snack.
Measured outcomes included relative abundance of fecal bifidobacteria, fecal microbiota composition and diversity, fecal SCFAs, whole-gut transit time, gut pH, stool output (both frequency and consistency), and gut symptoms.
A subgroup of 47 undertook measurement of gut transit time, pH, and pressure with a wireless motility capsule for baseline; 41 completed the endpoint. Another group of 31 participants were in the mastication analysis, designed to assess the impact of almond form (i.e., whole versus ground) on particle size distribution and lipid release following mastication. The fecal microbiota composition was analyzed, and there were no significant differences in phyla or genera between bacteria groups at baseline. Moreover, almonds in either whole or ground state did not increase the abundance of fecal bifidobacteria when compared to the control snack. However, a previous research study reported that almonds increased microbiome diversity, while decreasing relative levels of potentially harmful bacteria.
For the gut microbiota metabolites, researchers found no significant differences between groups for total or individual SCFAs. In the statistical analysis performed, butyrate was significantly higher among all almond consumers compared to those who consumed the snack muffin. There was no significant difference in whole-gut transit time, neither was a difference observed in small bowel pH or colonic pH. The whole-almond consumers experienced a significant difference in stool frequency with an additional 1.5 bowel movements per week. There were no differences in any of the groups for incidence or severity of common gastrointestinal symptoms.
In summary, Professor Whelan and his colleagues found that study participants who consumed almonds experienced significant increases in butyrate as well as increased stool frequency. Almonds were well tolerated and did not lead to gastrointestinal symptoms, which indicates almond consumption may be a way to increase fiber without causing any adverse effects. This is suggestive of positive alterations to microbiota functionality.
“We think these findings suggest almond consumption may benefit bacterial metabolism in a way that has the potential to influence human health,” said Professor Whelan.
Commenting on this study, Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head – Dietetics, Max Healthcare, Delhi said, “A healthy gut is crucial for maintaining a good immune system and overall wellbeing. Various factors can lead to imbalance in the gut which can result in the increase of bad bacteria in comparison to the good bacteria. This can have several harmful implications on one’s health. To maintain good gut health, it is important to be cognizant of the foods that we eat. The study indicates almond consumption may be a way to increase fiber which is suggestive of positive alterations to microbiota functionality thereby having a potential to influence human health positively.”
Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, Sheela Krishnaswamy, said, “Butyrate is one of the short chain fatty acids that plays an important role in promoting gut health. It is produced when the bacteria digest the fiber in the gut, and may help in improving sleep quality and fighting inflammation. Butyrate has also been associated with a lower risk of colon cancer. Hence, to improve gut health, we must focus on consuming foods that help in elevating short-chain fatty acid levels, including butyrate levels. The study shows that consuming almonds significantly increases butyrate in the colon. Almonds also give additional benefits such as increased intake of MUFA, total fiber, potassium, magnesium and other nutrients.”
Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach Neha Ranglani said, “Snacking is important to fuel our energy through the day but we need to be careful in terms of choosing the kind of food we eat as snacks. Over-consumption of unhealthy snacks or high fatty, sugary and salty foods can wreak a havoc on our digestive system and lead to several health problems. This study throws light on how diet affects the gut microbiome in ways that benefit health and help to prevent disease. Researchers have found that consumption of almonds are beneficial for the gut as they help in increasing the butyrate levels in human body. Almonds are a source of fiber which is metabolized by the gut microbes to form butyrate. This directly benefits the gut and promotes gut health.
Limitations of this study are seen in both the sex distribution of volunteers, where more than 86% were female, as well as in age. Average age of participants was 27.5 years. The researchers recognize their findings are not necessarily generalizable to males or to older populations.
Almonds provide fiber (12.5 / 3.5 g per 100g / 30g serving) and 15 essential nutrients including (per 100g / 30g serving): magnesium (270 / 81 mg), potassium (733 / 220 mg), and vitamin E (25.6 / 7.7 mg), making them a perfect nutrient-rich snack to promote gut health.
Study at-a-Glance:
The Study
Researchers explored the prebiotic effect of almonds and the potential impact almond processing had on this effect in a free-living, 4-week, 3-arm, parallel-design randomized controlled trial.
Eighty-seven healthy adults participated and received either 56 g/d whole almonds, 56 g/d ground almonds, or an isocaloric snack muffin as the control.
Baseline and endpoint measures included gut microbiota composition and diversity, short-chain fatty acids, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), gut transit time, stool output, and gut symptoms (n=87). A subgroup (n=31) was measured for the impact of almond form, ground or whole, on particle size distribution (PSD) along with predicted lipid release.
Results
Researchers observed no significant differences in the abundance of fecal bifidobacteria following consumption of either form of almond or the control snack. Almond consumers (both ground and whole almonds), had higher butyrate (24.1 µmol/g; SD 15.0 µmol/g) compared to the control (18.2 µmol/g, SD 9.1 µmol/g; p=0.046).
There was no effect of almonds on gut microbiota at the phylum level or diversity, gut transit time, stool consistency, or gut symptoms. Three VOCs increased following almond consumption compared to control muffins, but this change was not statistically significant.
Ground almonds resulted in significantly smaller PSD and higher predicted lipid release (10.4%, SD 1.8%) in comparison to whole almonds (9.3%, SD 2.0%; p=0.017).
Of the subgroup participating in the mastication study, analysis of PSD demonstrated a significant interaction between whole almonds and the particle size on PSD; however, commercially ground almonds did not differ meaningfully in their nutrient bioaccessibility from whole almonds.
Post-hoc testing showed whole almond participants had higher intakes of monounsaturated fatty acids, total fiber, potassium, along with other nutrients when compared to the control participants. Similarly, ground almond consumers had higher intakes of monounsaturated fatty acids, total fiber, and other micronutrients.
Conclusion
Participants who consumed almonds experienced small but significant differences in stool frequency as well as significant increases in butyrate in the colon. Researchers indicate that these findings suggest positive alterations to gut microbiota functionality. The impact of almond consumption on bacterial metabolism has the potential to influence human health.
These results have inspired thinking regarding how almonds may benefit older adults as well as those with constipation, as these populations are known to have lower levels of bifidobacteria than healthy, young adults as well as those without constipation.

The “two-finger test” will no longer be allowed in rape trials, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday, and any who still use it will be found guilty of misconduct. The two-finger test is an unethical and invasive physical examination in which two fingers are inserted into a woman’s vagina to gauge the suppleness of her vaginal muscles and ascertain her “virginity.”
While delivering judgement restoring a conviction in a rape-murder case, Justice Chandrachud on Monday said, “Evidence of a victim’s sexual history not material to case. It is regrettable that it continues to be conducted even today”.
Supreme Court warned that persons conducting the test in rape cases will be held guilty of misconduct and ordered removal of two-finger test from study materials in medical colleges saying the “unscientific invasive method of examining rape survivor retraumatises sexually assaulted woman”.
The apex court overturned the acquittal order of a High Court and sentenced the man to life imprisonment in the rape-murder case that was being heard.
The Supreme Court had deemed the practice unconstitutional in 2013 and held that the test should not be performed.
The two-finger test is an unscientific and regressive procedure that involves the insertion of two fingers into a person’s vagina to gauge the laxity of vaginal muscles, thereby determining her ‘virginity’. It is based on the patriarchal assumption that a woman who is sexually active is less likely to have been sexually assaulted; several judgments and research have shown that a person’s sexual history have no bearing on sexual assault.

Many of the finest and most gifted performers embody their roles through method acting, an approach in which the actor ‘becomes’ the character. Yes, these methods sometimes tend to freak out people on set but what’s a smashing performance without some sacrifice? Gashmeer Mahajani, the lead in the Tu Zakhm Hai – an MX Serial, has a similar story to narrate for his grey character in this long format series that is now streaming on MX Player. The actor, who has been receiving positive comments on his role, opens up about his process of getting into character and what happened behind the scenes in the transformation of becoming Viraj.
On his preparation, Gashmeer said, “Being Viraj was like being caught up in a whirlwind of emotions. I’ve wanted to try my hand at grey shades for a while now and Tu Zakhm Hai was the perfect opportunity to do so. Although Viraj may not always act in accordance with the law, the audience will attest to his capacity to grow as a person. There are so many layers to him, it was quite a process to get it right. I spent the entire shoot by myself, entirely cut off from the outer world. We filmed it far from home in Delhi, which was good for me. From the moment I stepped out of the hotel room until I returned, I was Viraj. The other crew members were in shock most days as well, sometimes wary of approaching me when I was practising my lines or getting into character because I was not Gashmeer but that intimidating, authoritative person who probably scared them. He has so much violence, hurt, and angst inside of him that it wouldn’t have been possible to snap in and out of it effortlessly.”
Tu Zakhm Hai follows the life of Viraj Trehan – a Hawala King who runs his illegal operations with an iron fist while hiding behind the facade of a real estate mogul. Circumstances lead Viraj to hold the fiercely independent and strong Kavya Grewal hostage as a special guest – caged in his dark embrace while love finds mysterious ways to bloom in this otherwise hopeless situation. But when two diametrically different worlds collide, there are consequences beyond imagination. Will Viraj be able to straighten his present and blur his past? Will Kavya and Viraj find common ground that will allow them to coexist in love?
Directed by Aniruddha Rajederkar and Noel Smith, the series also stars Donal Bisht, Nehal Chudasama, Parinita Seth, Jinal Joshi, Sachin Verma, Aparna Kumar, Udhav Vij, Saurabh Man and Abhinav Verma in key roles.
Produced by Inspire Films Private Limited (a Beyond Dreams company), Tu Zakhm Hai – an MX Serial is currently streaming on MX Player
‘Boycott Cadbury’ trends after news of beef being used in Cadbury product
Boycott Cadbury started trending on Twitter on Sunday as apart from the usual fake claims of ‘beef’ being used in Cadbury products, social media users targetted the recent Diwali advertisement of the company.
VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi shared the Cadbury advertisement and objected to the use of ‘Damodar’ as the name of a poor lamp seller claiming that this has been done to show “someone with PM Narendra Modi’s father’s name in poor light”. “Chaiwale ke baap diyewala,” Sadhvi Prachi tweeted while many others started tweeting calling for the boycott of Cadbury products in India.
This is not the first time that Cadbury came under the fire of Indian Twitter users. In 2021, a similar boycott call was given which prompted the company to issue a statement clarifying that all its products in India are 100% vegetarian and the green dot on the wrapper stands for that.
Twitter users who made the ‘Boycott Cadbury’ trend shared a screenshot of the product description page of the Cadbury website, Australia. It said, “Please note, if any of our Australian products contain gelatine in the ingredients, the gelatine we use is halal certified and derived from beef.”
The viral screenshot claiming beef in Cadbury products is not from India. Earlier when the same accusations were brought against Cadbury, Mondelez India, which manufactures Cadbury Daily Milk, its Indian products are 100% vegetarian.

BIOFUELCIRCLE IN ASSOCATION WITH BAIF COMMENCES COUNTYRY’S FIRST PROJECT TO ESTABLISH BIOMASS FOCUSED RURAL BUSINESSES’ IN MAHARASHTRA
27 October 2022: BiofuelCircle, India’s first online marketplace for biomass and biofuels, has embarked on an ambitious project to establish 20 Biomass Banks at select locations across Maharashtra.
Biomass Bank, a digitally enabled rural business concept, facilitates biomass collection, aggregation, transport, and processing for green energyusing BiofuelCircle’s digital platform.
The project has BAIF Agro and Bio-Technology Private Limited, as rural implementation partner, under the guidance of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The first phase of the project includes Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) spread across Amravati, Hingoli, Pune (Ambegaon) and Osmanabad Districts.
Biomass Banks, set up by these FPOs and SHGs will digitally connect farmers and drive collection of agricultural waste from the upcoming harvest season. BiofuelCircle marketplace will further provide market connect and services for end-use of the aggregated residue as industrial fuel.
Sharing his views on the initiative Suhas Baxi, Co-Founder and CEO, BiofuelCircle said “BiofuelCircle’s three-sided marketplace model is designed to drive wide scale rural participation. We aim to address the challenges around bioenergy supply chain and make a positive impact on the environment and the rural community by providing economic value, clean energy and increased rural job opportunities.”
This phase of the project aims to create market linkage for 15,000+ farmers and provide a sustained method for evacuating 100,000 MT Agri-residue biomass annually and create additional rural income of Rs 15 Crores.
Adding to this Mr. Shrinivas Kulkarni, Director, BAIF Agro and Bio Technology said “We work with the farmers at the grass-root level. Dealing with the crop residue is an issue. Its evacuation itself costs money. While burning it down may appear to be the easiest way, it’s not in the best interest of the farmer since it reduces soil nutrients. Biomass Bank is an encouraging move towards simplifying the “farm to industry connect” and helping meet the country’s energy needs with biomass and at the same time benefiting even the smallest farmer. Rural enterprise model generates more rural jobs and provides an additional source of income to the farmers.”
Furthermore, this initiative is a significant step in contributing towards climate change by ensuring sustainability and efficient waste management.
Despite doubting his intentions multiple times to follow through with the $44 billion Twitter acquisition deal, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is now in charge of Twitter, CNBC reported.
As per sources, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal and finance chief Ned Segal have left the company’s San Francisco headquarters and will not be returning as Musk began the purge of executives after closing the expected deal. Vijaya Gadde, the head of legal policy, trust, and safety was also fired, as per media reports.
In April, Twitter accepted Musk’s proposal to buy and take the social media service private. However, Musk soon began sowing doubt about his intentions to follow through with the agreement, alleging that the company failed to adequately disclose the number of spam and fake accounts on the service.
Earlier when Musk said he was terminating the deal, Twitter sued the billionaire, alleging he ‘refuses to honour his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests’, however, he later decided to pursue his acquisition of Twitter at the original price of $54.20 a share, reported CNBC.
Following Musk’s decision, a Delaware Chancery Court judge eventually ruled that Musk had until October 28 to cement the Twitter deal or head to trial.
Musk arrived at the Twitter headquarters earlier this week carrying a sink, and documented the event on Twitter, saying ‘Entering Twitter HQ — let that sink in!’ and also updated his Twitter description to ‘Chief Twit’.
He tweeted a video of him and described his visit as an experience that he was trying to ‘sink in’ as the Tesla CEO has until the end of the week to either close the Twitter deal or face a trial.
In July, in a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk who had long been showing his interest to buy Twitter terminated the deal. The Tesla CEO did so by alleging that Twitter violated their mutual purchase agreement by misrepresenting the number of spam and fake bot accounts on its platform. After Musk put out the deal termination announcement, the market saw a sharp decline. Later, Twitter sued Musk accusing him of using bots as a pretext to exit a deal.
Again, last week, Musk confirmed that he will move forward with the Twitter buyout at the originally agreed price of $54.20 per share. However, the Twitter deal legal proceedings had been put on hold by a judge overseeing the dispute until October 28.

Nagpur-Hyderabad distance would be covered in three and a half hours, says Gadkari
Nagpur: The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced that the Nagpur-Hyderabad Road would be widened and thus the distance of about five hundred kilometres could be covered in just three and a half hours. “With this move, Hyderabad will come very close to Nagpur,” Gadkari said while interacting with the media in Nagpur on Wednesday.
Gadkari further said that the Central Government aims to build roads worth Rs 25,000 crore in the country in the coming year. Nagpur and Hyderabad routes are also included in this. At present, it takes at least eight to nine hours by road to cover the distance from Nagpur to Hyderabad. Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be made super fast, he added.
The Union Minister called on the common people to invest in the National Highway Authority of India’s (NHAI) ‘National Highways Infra Trust (NHAI InvIT) bonds claiming that at 8% it would offer better returns than any other institutions, said a report in a local English daily.
This infrastructure investment trust was launched to support the Centre’s National Monetization Pipeline (NMP). India has the second largest network in the world covering about 63.72 lakh kms, as per the NHAI officials.
Gadkari informed that NHAI would raise InvIT bonds of Rs 25 lakh crore for its various projects. He emphasised that common people would be targeted for the sale of bonds apart from institutions and foreign investors. “There has been a massive response to the InvIT since its launch (on October 17). The issue is already oversubscribed four times. We will provide monthly interest to all the investors. The amount will be used to construct highways and bridges on a public-partnership basis,” the Minister said.
Gadkari said the InvIT bonds would soon be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), where investors would get the opportunity for investment and trade. “I would be going to Mumbai for listing these bonds, probably next week,” he said.
Stressing that the country’s economy was on a fast-track growth, Gadkari said highways would play a vital role in it. “We would be constructing 26 green expressways across the country. One of those is the completely new Nagpur-Hyderabad highway. It would significantly reduce the travelling time between two cities. The alignment of the road is already completed, and we would soon come out with a DPR. Once completed, the travel distance between two cities would be just three and half hours,” the report quoted Gadkari as saying.
Gadkari said another project would be the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway which would connect the existing Mumbai-Pune Expressway. “All these highways would be access controlled and 10-12 lanes wide. In Meerut, we have built a 16-lane highway,” he said.
The city MP said that once Samruddhi Mahamarg opens, it would be more convenient to reach Pune through Jalna. “A new road would be constructed from Jalna to Pune, which would be completed in the next one and half years.”
Speaking on the ambitious Inter-Modal Station (IMS), the Union Minister reiterated that the project was scrapped due to stiff opposition from environmentalists who also filed a PIL in Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. “We are exploring whether the same facilities can be built at Khapri. We are also planning to shift the heavy traffic at Sindi Dry Port. We had received Rs 1,200 crore from the centre for IMS, but after opposition by the greens at the Ajni Vann, even the contractor backed out. It has affected the plans to replace the existing British-era bridge at Ajni with a new one,” he said.
