A handful of almonds for mindful eating and prioritizing family health
Nagpur, 12th January 2023:With an aim to educate consumers on the importance of mindful eating, Almond Board of California, today, hosted a session around ‘Prioritising mindful eating: the new mantra for holistic family health’. The discussion focused on the importance of eating healthy foods to ensure holistic health for our families and us. The session featured well-known Film and TV Actress, Mrinal Kulkarni, as well as Neha Ranglani, Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach, andwas moderated by RJ Anushree.
In the fast-paced lifestyle we live in, we often see people binge eating sometimes due to work stress, sometimes due to the way consumption patterns have been since ages, and sometimes itis just habitual. Intake of calorie-dense foods like sweets and sugar-based foods is also a routine when it comes to certain delicacies or occasions. Hence, mindful eating becomes even more necessary as it aids in gaining control over one’s eating habits. Mindful eating helps in maintaining an in-moment awareness while consuming food. Foods such as almonds have been a part of the Indian traditions and food habits for thousands of years now, and their health benefits have been widely quoted in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha texts. However, a lesser-known fact of almonds is that a handful of almonds may have satiating properties that promote feelings of fullness, which may keep hunger at bay between meals. Snacking on healthy foods like almonds not only keeps us from munching on junk foods but also ensures that our body gets nutrition, as almonds are a source of 15 nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, protein, riboflavin, zinc, etc.
A handful of almonds for mindful eating and prioritizing family health
Speaking about the benefits of regular almond consumption, the panellists spoke about howalmonds, which are a source of protein and are high in dietary fiber, can help in maintaining blood sugar levels, may improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes and help lower the blood sugar impact of carbohydrate foods, which affects fasting insulin levels.Nutrients like zinc, folate and iron, that are present in almonds and other foods, contribute to normal functioning of the immune system. Focusing on the significance of healthy eating, the panellists discussed the multiple lifestyle disorders likeweight management, type-2 diabetes and heart health, and that making minor alterations like adding a handful of almonds as part of one’s daily routine can easily help in maintaining good health, and in staying fit consistently. Through the session, the panellists also urged families across the city to inculcate healthier eating habits and inspire other friends and extended family members to instil this change. During the discussion, both panellists also shared anecdotes from their personal lives, how they also consume almonds through festivealmond dessert recipes,as well as suggestions for dietary and lifestyle adjustments that families can make towards a holistic health.
Film and TV Actress, Mrinal Kulkarni said, “For the health of your family and yourself, one must be cognisant of the kind of lifestyle and eating habits that we practice at home. Any habit that does not add up to your health
goals must be avoided and even better, be replaced by something healthy or nutritious. For instance, when I leave for my shoots,
I make sure to keep a small tin of almonds in my handbag as they are convenient to store and carry. The reason why my family and I prefer to eat almonds regularly is because almonds are known to have satiating properties and keep us full for a long time. It also helps us to keep a check on mid-meal hunger and at the same time remain energetic through the day. Hence, I would recommend everyone to ensure eating a handful of almonds regularly so that even you are able to reap their several health benefits.”
Neha Ranglani, Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach, said, “Awareness of good food choices and snacking habits is key to leading a healthy lifestyle. Studies suggest that intervention techniques that enhance mindful self-awareness improve well-being, including anxiety and depression, eating disorders, food cravings, and weight loss.A study conducted by the researchers at King’s College London found that almond snacking led to improved heart rate variability in response to mental stress. My top recommendation for mindful snacking is to includenutrient-rich foods like almonds, a variety of fruits, and vegetables.Almonds are a source of nutrients such as protein, vitamin E, magnesium, riboflavin, zinc etc., and are known to provide energy through good fats, which makes them a healthy yet tasty treat.”
Although habits are hard to break, modifying dietary habits and making corrective lifestyle adjustments is one of the best ways for families to ensure holistic health in the long term. Besides feeling lighter and energetic, a healthy lifestyle sustained over time will also help in reducing the risk of chronic and lifestyle diseases, which are on the rise in India. Smalldietary and lifestyle changes like incorporating nutritious foods such as a handful of almonds everyday, can make a healthy difference to our lives.
ASCI’s EdNext study lays down a progressive and responsible approach to advertising for the EdTech industry
Mumbai, 12 January 2023: The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) released a comprehensive report on advertising in the education technology sector (EdTech) and the impact it has on parents and students. The report aims to decode the challenges and opportunities for EdTech sector advertising. The report also identifies ways in which the sector can shape a more responsible narrative, and move away from opportunistic advertising which many consider problematic.
EdTech as a sector holds immense promise in being able to address the infrastructural and learning challenges in India, hence it is critical that the advertising of the sector does not undermine its potential. The study, done with the active participation of both industry and non-industry stakeholders identifies opportunities and challenges and proposes a framework that could guide advertisers to more balanced advertising.
The EdNext study was undertaken by ASCI with Sprint Studio.ai as the research partner and UNICEF as the knowledge partner. A total of 100 EdTech advertisements across print, TV, digital video and static mediums were analysed by a wide set of stakeholders including parents, students, policymakers, educationists, child development experts, as well as representatives of the industry from the marketing and creative fields. The study was conducted across the cities of Delhi, Bangalore, Indore, Kanpur, Patna, Kolhapur, Warangal and Bardhaman.
The analysis revealed that:
Ads have a huge impact on parents’ choice of EdTech platform, with 49% of parents choosing platforms based on advertising
Like traditional education ads, Ed-Tech ads too, have a huge focus on marks and ranks. Math and science dominated the subjects depicted
While 81% of parents trust EdTech ads, 73% felt that ads showed high pressure of studies
None of the endorsers/ role models were from the academic field
Stereotypes of gender, physical appearances, and mother’s roles crept in to these ads
The findings also noted some positives. Some of the key positives identified were:
Ads featuring parents represented them as supporting partners to students, and thereby provided positive role models for progressive parenting (21 out of 23 ads)
Parents and experts also felt that ads that focused on conceptual learning were progressive and enjoyable
The EdNext study proposed a framework to elevate the communication around EdTech mindfully. Titled ‘RAISE’, the framework provides stakeholders a set of lenses to evaluate the creatives and develop messages that could be considered more progressive. Following the checklist guide provided in the framework will help marketers and creative experts review concepts at the inception stage of the ad itself.
The framework is based on five principles which include:
R – Relationship of the student with learning
A – Authenticity of situations, promises and claims
I – Inclusive representation of characters to depict diversity in gender, age, physical attributes, personality types, learning styles and pace along with regional inclusion
S – Spectrum of pedagogy where there is information on learning methods and how they contribute to holistic learning outcomes
E – Excellence markers to focus on overall development as a measure of success over ranks and marks
Manisha Kapoor, CEO and Secretary General, ASCI, said: “EdTech has emerged as a very important sector in recent times, especially in the pandemic era where parents engaged with these companies to supplement their children’s education. Ed-Tech has the ability to solve some fundamental infrastructure and content challenges and revolutionize Indian education. However, given the particular asymmetry between vulnerable parents and students on the one hand, and large organizations on the other, it is critical to ensure that advertising is responsible and does not exploit these vulnerabilities. EdTech advertising has a massive opportunity to build a positive and future-facing narrative, which makes for compelling brand stories that also build confident and multifaceted learners.”
Mayank Kumar, Chair at Indian Ed-tech Consortium, and Co-founder UpGrad said: “The EdNext report shines light on the sheer scale of the EdTech sector and highlights the need for raising the bar on advertising in the industry along with providing a roadmap on how that can be achieved. The report also shows huge acceptance of the benefits of EdTech products by students, parents and teachers. The in-depth research we undertook along with ASCI will help the industry get a clear picture of how the sector can benefit through responsible advertising, which it is already constantly working towards.”
Divya Gokulnath,Co-chairat Indian Ed-tech Consortium and Co-Founder BYJU’S said: “The EdNext report highlights that almost all parents are appreciative of the ads which show children enjoying the process of learning, which is something we live by, work for, and showcase in our ads. We prioritize building strong and sustainable relationships based on first principles. While it’s natural for advertisers to highlight the best outcomes achieved by their users, the EdTech industry strives to present a balanced picture at all times. As a nascent industry that is constantly evolving, we must adapt in our effort so that we can make learning effective for everyone. This initiative by ASCI will help us design even more responsible and effective ad campaigns as we continue to grow and improve.”

Watch Doordarshan in the coming days without set-top boxes
With the aid of digital television receivers with built-in satellite tuners, viewers will soon be able to watch all free-to-air channels of official broadcaster Doordarshan without set top boxes.
These tuners would make it possible to receive free-to-air TV and radio channels by simply connecting a dish antenna with an LNB mounted on the building’s roof or side wall.
On Monday, the release of specifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for digital television receivers with integrated satellite tuners. These requirements would have to be followed when creating such television sets by television manufacturers.
Currently, set-top boxes must be purchased in order for television viewers to access both paid and free channels.
Even for the reception of Doordarshan’s non – encrypted free-to-air channels, the viewer must use a set-top box.
Right now, analogue transmission is being phased out by Doordarshan. Doordarshan will continue to use digital satellite transmission to broadcast free-to-air channels.

UIDAI sets guidelines for entities performing offline Aadhar verification
On Tuesday, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) called on a number of hygiene-related concerns and provided Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) a set of guidelines regarding enhanced safety precautions at the user level and techniques to further boost residents’ trust while using Aadhaar voluntarily for legal purposes.
OVSEs are the entities that do offline verification of an Aadhaar number holder for a valid purpose.
Offline verification is the use of Aadhaar for carrying out identity verification and KYC processes locally, without connecting to the Central Identities Data Repository of UIDAI.
“Entities have been informed to perform verification of Aadhaar after explicit consent of the Aadhaar number holder. These entities need to be courteous to residents and assure them about the security and confidentiality of their Aadhaar while conducting offline verification,’ the authority said in a press release.
According to the press release, entities are required to keep a log or record of the citizens’ express consent for any upcoming audits by UIDAI or other relevant legal authorities.
Instead of accepting Aadhar in physical form, the UIDAI asked OVSEs to verify Aadhaar via the QR Code present on all four forms of Aadhaar (Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar, m-Aadhaar, and Aadhaar PVC card).
The authority insisted that as far as a person is able to prove their identity through other acceptable methods, no resident will be refused services because they choose not to or are unable to submit to offline Aadhaar verification.
It has been underlined that OVSEs need to provide residents with viable alternative means of identification in addition to Aadhaar, for rendering service.
“Verification entities, generally should not collect, use or store the Aadhaar number of the resident after having conducted offline verification of Aadhaar, UIDAI has informed OVSEs. Post verification, if the OVSE finds it necessary for any reason, to store a copy of Aadhaar, the OVSE must ensure that the Aadhaar number is redacted/masked and irretrievable,” UIDAI said.
Tampering with Aadhaar documents can be detected by offline verification, and tampering is a punishable offense and is liable for penalties under Section 35 of the Aadhaar Act.
In cases of misuse of information, verification entities need to inform UIDAI and the resident concern within 72 hours.
UIDAI has cautioned OVSEs not to perform offline verification on behalf of any other entity or person and ensure full cooperation with the Authority or law enforcement agencies in case of any investigation involving the misuse of Aadhaar.
Government establishes quality standards for digital TV receptacles and USB Type-C chargers
Standards for USB Type C plug, cables, and receptacles have been published by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in an effort to provide uniform charging options for smartphones and other electronic devices sold in the nation.
Three “significant” Indian Standards in the field of electronics have been published by the BIS, according to a statement from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution. For digital television receivers with built-in satellite tuners, the first standard is the Indian Standard. A specification for televisions with built-in satellite tuners called Indian Standard IS 18112:2022 has been published by the Bureau of Indian Standards’ technical committee. When using a dish antenna with an LNB mounted in a suitable location on the building’s roof or side wall, TVs made to this Indian standard can receive Free-To-Air TV and Radio channels.
Indian Standard for USB Type C plugs, receptacles, and cables is the second norm. The Indian Standard IS/IEC 62680-1-3:2022 USB Type-C® Cable and Connector Speci?cation has been made available by the Bureau of Indian Standards. According to the statement released on Monday, this Indian standard is an adoption of the current international standard IEC 62680-1- 3:2022.
“This standard provides requirements for USB Type-C port, plug, and cables for use in various electronic devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, notebooks, etc.,” as per the the statement.
For the smartphones and other electronic devices available for purchase in the nation, this standard would offer standard charging solutions. As a result, consumers would need fewer chargers overall because they wouldn’t need to purchase a different charger each time they bought a new device. According to the statement, this would aid in the Government of India’s mission to reduce e-waste and advance sustainable development.
Previously, consumers had to keep a variety of chargers for the various electronic devices they owned, which resulted in additional costs, an increase in e-waste, and a great deal of inconvenience. Worldwide efforts are being made to address these issues, it said.
As per the statement, “The third Standard is Indian Standards for Video Surveillance Systems. Bureau of Indian Standards, through its technical committee on Alarms and Electronic Security Systems has developed a series of Indian Standard (IS 16910) on Video Surveillance Systems for use in Security Applications. IS 16910 series of Standards is an adoption of the International Standard IEC 62676 series.”
The standard provides a detailed outline of all the aspects of a Video Surveillance System such as requirements for its components like camera devices, interfaces, system requirements and tests to ascertain the image quality of the camera devices and also speci?es guidelines on e?cient installation of the system,” the statement said.
“Considering the constantly evolving technology in the security industry and the abundant options of VSS to choose from it has become cumbersome for the common person, be it the installers/ specifiers/ users, to pick the right set of VSS that exactly ?ts his intended use. This series of Standards would assist customers, installers and users in establishing their requirements, determining the appropriate equipment required for their intended application, and also provide means of evaluating objectively the performance of the VSS. This will also help in making the surveillance system more secure, robust and cost effective,” it said.
“Video Surveillance System (VSS) is an essential security component that is used almost everywhere to capture any unwanted activity. Due to the multitude of video cameras o?ered for sale in the marketplace, and the seemingly in?nite variety of camera features and options available, e?orts to procure the right video surveillance system that produce images of suitable quality for the intended use have become confusing and technically challenging. Also, the owners and or installers do not have a clear idea of the purpose of each video surveillance system and the level of detail needed to achieve that purpose,” it added.
The action follows the ministry’s actions regarding the common charge issue. An interministerial task force had been established by the ministry to address the problem.
A “broad consensus” had emerged among stakeholders on adoption of USB Type – C as a charging port for electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, during a meeting of the task force on November 16, 2022.

Celebrate a healthy and mindful harvest festival with almonds
INDIA, 09 January 2023: Harvest festival is celebrated across the globe and occurs around the main harvest period of different regions. India, with its diversity, celebrates this festival in various ways. However, the essence of it remains the same.It is called Maghi and is preceded by Lohri in North India, Magh Bihu in North-east, Uttarayan in the West, Pongal in the South and Makar Sankranti in the South and East. Celebrating this festival is a way of thanking for the successful harvests and feasting with one’s family and friends, with foods that are drawn from the crops.
During these occasions, as tradition dictates, we tend to indulge in a lot of sweets and savories. However, it is possible to modify them a little and make these celebrations a healthier one. For instance, instead of gifting a box of sweets to your friends and family, you can share a box of assorted almonds. Moreover, almonds are a “gift of good health” which can make for a healthy gifting substitute for these occasions. Almonds are known to be a source of nutrients like magnesium, copper and dietary fiber, and are rich in proteinsalong with immunity-enhancingantioxidant vitamin E. Almonds are also high in unsaturated fats which are good for one’s health. Research supports multiple benefits of eating almonds, including heart health, type 2 diabetesmanagement and enhancing satiety.
According to well-knownFitness Expert and Celebrity Master Instructor, Yasmin Karachiwala,” Festivities are a time for feasting and celebrations, and it is natural to indulge in them.My mantra in life is to balance things, which is why I enjoy these festivities fully but ensure to add a healthy twist to them. I would suggest the same for you given thathealth is a precious thing. So, while exchanging giftswithyour loved ones, I would recommend you swap the calorie-laden sweet boxes with a healthy substitute like almonds. These healthy nuts are also known to be a gift of good health and are a perfect gifting option for such occasions. Including almonds as a part of your daily diet can go a long way in ensuring good health and may keep several health concerns at bay. Almonds also contain satiating properties which may also help you to manage your weight!”
Sheela Krishnaswamy, Nutrition and Wellness Consultantsaid, “Festivals are a great time to bond with your loved ones and express feelings of love, affection and care, but they are also a time when we throw caution to the wind and overindulge in festivefoods. To counter this, we can make mindful changes to the usual celebrations by substituting the traditional sweets and savories with a healthier option. One such option is almonds. Almonds are easily adaptable in many traditional Indian recipes and are also a good choice for snacking between meals. The best part about almonds is that they are easy and quick to flavour and go with just about any masala/spices making them a tasty and yet healthy addition to your festival food. Research suggests that almonds can help lower the blood sugar impact of carbohydrate foods that they are eaten with, which affects fasting insulin levels. Eating almonds as part of a healthy diet has also been shown to help lower total and LDL cholesterol and reduce levels of heart damaging inflammation.”
Talking about the various benefits of almonds, Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head –Dietetics, Max Healthcare –Delhisaid,”During Sankranti, a lot of us give way to our temptations, and tend to indulge in sweets and other deep fried snacks. A good way to control this, is by switching to gifting healthier items like dried fruits or nuts like almonds, which also make for good snacking. Replacing ultra-processed snacks, with dry, roasted or salted variants of almonds will not only help in keeping you satiated through the festivities, but also aid in your overall health. Research also suggests that regular consumption of almonds may reduce harmful LDL cholesterol levels and help maintain protective HDL cholesterol when included in a healthy diet. It may also help reduce levels of heart damaging inflammation for individuals with type-2 diabetes.”
Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach, Neha Ranglani mentioned,”While it is natural to indulge in some traditional delicacies during festivals, it is always wise to know when to draw a line. Sweets and savories, although gratifying in the short-term, have a far-reaching negative impact on our health in the long term. This makes it imperative to eatas healthilyas possible. This harvest festival, I would urge you to start your new year right by making some mindful changes to the traditional snacking. It can be simply substituting the traditional sweets with a handful of almonds.Almonds are a healthy addition to your diet as they have a host of essential nutrients such as vitamin e, iron, magnesium, zinc among others. Research suggests that consuming almonds daily may help control the progression of conditions such as pre-diabetes, and keep your heart healthy.”
Almonds from California are a natural, wholesome and quality food. The Almond Board of California promotes almonds through its research-based approach to all aspects of marketing, farming and production on behalf of the more than 7,600 almond growers and processors in California, many of which are multi-generational family operations. Established in 1950 and based in Modesto, California, the Almond Board of California is a non-profit organization that administers a grower-enacted Federal Marketing Order under the supervision of the United States Department of Agriculture. Pre- Budget expectations for the Plastic & Polymer Industry 2023-24 By Jigish Doshi, President, Plastindia Foundation
Plastindia Foundation urges the government to lower the import on polymer and increase the custom duty on finished plastic products in Union Budget 2023-24 to support the domestic plastic industry
Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the Union Budget for the financial year 2023-24.Plastindia Foundation is hopeful that the hon’ble Finance Minister will frame the budget keeping in mind the overall growth and development of the entire plastic industry – from raw materials, and converter to machinery manufacturers. Plastindia Foundation’s motto is to put the Indian plastic industry on a high growth path – from USD 5 trillion in 2025 to an ambitious USD 25 trillionby 2045.
To drive this growth and to make India the global sourcing hub for plastic,Plastindia Foundation wholeheartedly supports the Make in India andAatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. However, we need support from the government to make this a reality:
⮚The import duty on polymer should bebetween 5 – 7.5 %. India does not produce enough polymer and import is inevitable. Import duty on polymer needs to be lowered to make the Indian plastic industry more competitive
⮚Custom duty on the finished plastic product should bea minimum of 20% or moreto support the domestic plastic processing industry
⮚The government is focusing on renewable energy, and this presents an opportunity for the plastic industry. However, at present90% of the components for solar panels and windmills are imported and the products are only assembled in India.Toencourage the local manufacturers, thecustom duty on the import of components likeEVA, back sheet, metal frame, solar glassetc., should be at least20%.The plastic industry can play an important role in manufacturing EVA and back sheets
To promote industrialization in India, I would also request the hon’ble Finance Minister to consider the following:
⮚Make uninterrupted power available at less than Rs 5 per unit. India has a high electricity rate and power fluctuation is also very high. This rate is at par with neighbouringcountries that makes uninterrupted power available to industries at a low cost
⮚India should have a free labour law however the wages should not be so high that it makes the manufacturing industry globally uncompetitive.Labour law should come under the purview of the Central government and wages across the country – in tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 cities, should be uniform
⮚GST should not be higher than 12% across product categories
⮚Government should make land acquisition easy by identifying zones of land that are non-agricultural.Land from those zones should be made available easily without industries having to go through the formality of converting agricultural land to non-agricultural land. Also, the Government should start a new formula wherein developed land should be made available to industries on long-termleases. This will significantly lower the investment on land and make Indian industries globally competitive. Currently, the price of land is so high that project costsskyrocketed.China is using this formula for a very long time
⮚Easy financeat reasonable interest rates from both banks and NBFCs should be made available to the industry
⮚Compliances should be kept minimum. Also, if there areany technical errorsin following these compliances then it should be handled by a separate court. It should not be treated as criminal activity
Overall, we are expecting a budget that is industry-friendly and makes the domestic plastic industry more dynamic and globally competitive

Climbing the Everest beyond the Everest; that’s how Ada Yonath describes her ‘Ribosome’ journey
Expecting humans to develop resistance in any case, most pharmaceutical companies have stopped searching for new antibiotics, said Nobel Laureate, Dr. Ada Yonath, in her talk at the 108th Indian Science Congress.
Dr. Yonath, has developed a technique called ‘cryocrystallography’ in which protein crystals are rapidly cooled thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional X-Ray crystallography techniques. She was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for her research into atomic structure and function of cellular called ribosomes. Her later research was concerned with determining the atomic structure of antibiotics.
She presented her work as “a modest contribution” towards controlling or combating antibiotic resistance. “Most pharmaceutical companies have stopped searching for new antibiotics,” she said. The human body will develop resistance to existing antibiotics because “apparently bacteria want to live.” Her research for combating this antibiotics resistance is therefore of utmost importance.
On her journey in science, she said “Curiosity and passion brought me to where I am now, while enjoying the work.” There is a need to foster curiosity-based research, she stressed. “When I became a young scientist, I thought that the translation of the instructions embedded in the genetic code into proteins is one the most interesting life processes. Therefore, I focused on it,” she said.
She said, there are about 25,000 different types of proteins in an adult human body. Each of the 100,000 billion cells in human bodies contains around a billion protein molecules, and these are produced constantly.
Taking lessons from the bear’s winter sleep, she said their ribosomes are orderly packed on the inner side of their cell membranes, indicating that Ribosomes can be orderly packed. Ribosomes had been considered non-crystallizable. The solution was crystallisation of ribosomes from bacteria that live under extreme conditions, since they are more robust and may possess the tendency to pack orderly, she said.
Revealing the human behind the scientist, Dr. Yonathdescribed being ‘awarded’ “The Best Grandma of The Year” by her granddaughter as her life’s “biggest achievement,” to loud applause from the enthralled audience.
Earlier, Dr. Subhash Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor, RTM Nagpur University felicitated Dr. Yonath with a ceremonial gold medal and made the opening remarks. Dr. Prashant B. Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology, RTMNU, introduced the eminent speaker. Dr. Shyam Koreti, Associate Dean, Humanities, conducted the programme and proposed a vote of thanks. Prominently present were Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sajay Dudhe, Registrar Dr. Raju Hiwase, Deans Dr. Sanjay Kavishwar and Dr. Dattatray Wathode, and the Nobel Laureate’s daughter, Dr. Hagitha Yonath.
No need to visit bank to update KYC if you have done this already; Check what RBI said for banks’ verification process
According to the RBI, bank account holders who have already submitted valid documents previously and haven’t changed their residence need not any longer go to their bank branches to update their “know your customer” (KYC) information. They can instead submit a self-declaration through an email address, a registered mobile number, ATMs, or any other digital channel if there hasn’t been a change in their KYC information. Following Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das’ remarks that banks shouldn’t demand branch visits for KYC updates, the central bank released recommendations for the same on Thursday.
“As per the present guidelines, if there is no change in KYC information, a self-declaration to that effect from the individual customer is sufficient to complete the re-KYC process. “The banks have been advised to provide facility of such self-declaration to the individual customers through various non-face-to-face channels such as registered email-id, registered mobile number, ATMs, digital channels (such as online banking/internet banking, mobile application), letter, etc., without need for a visit to a bank branch,” it said.
Customers can provide a revised or updated address through any of these methods if there is only a minor address change, and the bank will verify the declared address within two months of receiving the revised or updated address. The Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002 requires banks to keep their data current and relevant by conducting regular checks and updates, according to the RBI (PMLA).
If the KYC documents found in bank records do not comply with the current list of officially recognised documents—passport, driver’s licence, evidence of Aadhaar number ownership, voter identity card, NREGA employment card, and letter from the National Population Register—a fresh KYC process is required. Additionally, it is required in situations where the earlier-submitted KYC document’s validity may have run out.
“Individual customers of banks are encouraged to get more information on the different options available to them from their bank for (a) completing re-KYC (such as submission of self-declaration through various non-face-to-face channels); or (b) completing fresh KYC by visiting a bank branch or remotely through V-CIP.”

Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell-based technology can help enable faster shift away from fossil fuels, promoting renewable energy, achieving energy self-reliance, and mitigating carbon emissions. Moreover, given India’s energy mix, its unique consumer profile and needs, infrastructure readiness, and the Government’s diversified efforts towards becoming ‘Atma Nirbhar’ in energy by 2047, Toyota is advancing mobility solutions with greater agility, thereby introducing, and supporting multiple clean technology pathways by joining hands with other stakeholders with mutual interest and aim to contribute to our nation’s carbon neutral targets.
Commenting on this clean mobility initiative, Mr. Sudeep S. Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communication Officer of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said “We are extremely happy to supply Hydrogen Fuel Cell Module to Ashok Leyland for building Fuel Cell Commercial Vehicle for proto examination and feasibility study purpose. Reducing tailpipe emissions and carbon footprint has always been extremely important for us at Toyota and we are also committed to contribute towards the national target of energy self-reliance. Globally, the energy industry is working on the technological innovations of carbon-neutral fuels such as hydrogen and biofuels. Through this initiative, we hope to promote wider use of hydrogen as a fuel which can help to create a hydrogen society in harmony with nature.”
The Government of India announced the National Hydrogen Mission (NHM) in the Union Budget for 2021-2022. NHM has drawn a road map for the usage of hydrogen as an energy source. This mission aims to push for the implementation of hydrogen energy that will drive the country in the right direction of making the best out of the renewable energy sector. Aligning with this, Toyota is enhancing its technological strengths to capitalize on the most abundant elements on earth for a better, safer, and cleaner alternative fuel option.
Toyota provides products that inspire customers to think, “this is practical to use” based on a sustainable and realistic approach. Based on the idea that cleaner vehicles contribute to the environment only when they come into widespread use, TKM are continually enhancing the line-ups of electrified vehicles (recent offerings of strong hybrid electric vehicles as Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross) and conduct pilot studies of alternate fuel-based vehicle technologies (such as Mirai and Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Mobility) to promote awareness on sustainable mobility.
Talking on this move, Dr. N. Saravanan, Chief Technology Officer of Ashok Leyland, said “Ashok Leyland is excited to collaborate with Toyota Kirloskar Motor to bring their globally renowned and proven fuel cell module system to the commercial vehicle sector in India. Ashok Leyland’s track record in bringing innovative and differentiated products combined with Toyota’s technology leadership in fuel cells has created a massive opportunity to conduct proto examination and feasibility study towards decarbonizing both goods and people transportation.”
The fuel cell electric vehicles use a propulsion system like that of electric vehicles, where energy stored as hydrogen is converted to electricity by the fuel cell. These FCEV are fuelled with pure hydrogen gas stored in a tank. Similar to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, FCEVs are equipped with other advanced technologies to increase efficiency, such as regenerative braking systems that capture the energy lost during braking and store it in a battery.
Globally, Toyota is implementing various initiatives to realize a hydrogen society, promoting fuel cells utilization for commercial vehicles, and increasing industrial uses. Toyota FC Modules are used by Commercial OEM to manufacture FC Truck, FC Bus in Japan, Europe, China, North America and presently in India.
