Nagpur metro rail to be operational by Feb 28 : Dr Brijesh Dixit

Nagpur : MahaMetro is trying its level best to start operation of Nagpur Metro on a stretch of 19 kms by February 28. It is planning to start routes from Khapri to Sitabuldi Munje Square and between Lokmanya Nagar and Subhash Nagar. Eight metro stations will be functional on both the routes.

Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro, launched a design of Nari Shakti Coach and e-cycle, e-scooters at South Airport Station on Thursday. Dr Dixit said, “We will start operation at Khapri Station, New Airport Station, South Airport Station, Airport Station, Jaiprakash Nagar Station and Sitabuldi Station on reach-I at Wardha road.”

The distance between Khapri to Sitabuldi is 13 kms. The other route between Lokmanya Nagar Hingna and Subhash Nagar will also be operational in February, he said. Total distance between these two stations is six kms. Dixit said, all the formalities like certification from Research Design Standard Organisation (RDSO) and Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will be completed in February.

Highly placed sources informed that Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are willing to inaugurate Nagpur Metro rail at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March.

E-cycles, e-scooters for public

Maha Metro will provide e-cycles, e-scooters to reach Metro Station from home or work station. Dr Brijesh Dixit launched India’s first smart urban mobility solution for public. He also took a ride on e-cycle during inauguration. These pedal cycles will be available on a pay per ride model, at Rs one for 10 minutes. It is connected with GPS.

Special coach for women

The first coach of Nagpur Metro will be dedicated to women. It will be called as Naari Shakti Coach. One of three coaches of Metro Rail will be reserved for women passengers only to provide them safe journey. Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director launched design of Naari Shakti Coach. “Maha Metro has provided panic button in every coach for the passengers. We are trying hard to provide all safety features,” he said.
