Nagpur is becoming global city – Mayor Nanda Jichkar

Nagpur : Exuding faith in the capabilities and strength of the people in Nagpur, Mayor Nanda Jichkar on Saturday said that the strategically located Orange City is becoming a global city. Because of the various projects and initiatives going on in the city, Nagpur is being known all over the world, she said at the inaugural session of the Nagpur Global Summit 2018 held at Chitnavis Centre. MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh; President of Nagpur First Dinesh Jain; former MLC Girish Gandhi; Avinash Jaiswal of Neco Group; Jay Sehgal, Executive Vice President of Sehgal Foundation and a trustee of SM Sehgal; Dr Vishram Jamdar, Chairman VNIT; and Sanjay Arora, CEO, Shells Advertising Inc; were seated on dias.

Apart from this, experts in various fields took part in various sessions held on the occasion. Dr Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer-Ministry of HRD, said that 2,000 institutions have been so far registered under Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) that are fostering culture of innovation in higher education. He also said that the ranking on all educational institutions would be given considering the number of innovations done in those institutions. The topic of the session was ‘Innovation as Growth Engine to Build Digital India’.

In the next session panelists including Deepak Garg, Director of LeadingIndia.ai; Siddhartha Chandurkar, CEO and Founder of ShepJertz; Anibha Athalye, Consultant, BI-Analytics at Persistent Systems; Laxmikant Pathak, Product Manager at Baker Hughes (GE Company) and Sohel Khan, Founder of pMainfold Infolabs Pvt Ltd, felt that artificial intelligence would be as important as electricity in human life.

Prasad Deore, Regional Manager, Nasscom while speaking at the session on ‘Future of tech jobs in IT/ITES said that the future technology jobs will undergo massive changes and people will have acquire new skill sets to match advanced technology being adopted by organisations. Many companies are under going digital transformation as they are adopting artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Big Data, 3D printing, augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) etc., for their products and services. For this organisations will be recruiting people with multi disciplinary skills. The focus will be on people with skills in social science, physics, mathematics, designing and engineering background.

“Most jobs will be technology application based. Organisations will looking for people with creative background as most products will have systems which will interact with customer and respond to their requirements. Customers want good and simple user experience of products,” he said. Colleges will have to introduce courses with new skill sets to match industry requirements. “We will have to build an ecosystem for teaching advanced technology to students,” he said. Nasscom has set up an incubation centre where it is providing corporate funding, laboratory for research, mentors etc., for startups,” he added.

US headquartered cloud infrastructure automation and cloud migration technology company – Click2Cloud Inc – that also has its development centre here in the city has plans to recruit about 500 persons in coming days. CTO and Co-Founder of the company Prashant Mishra said this during the summit.

Mishra said that majority of the new recruits would be freshers. “Though we have plans to hire experienced hands that could further strengthen our base here, we are mainly looking at young graduates who are ready to take on challenges,” he said.

The company, that also has presence in China, hinted at launching new initiative which it did not wish to disclose at this point in time. Click2Cloud Inc hs recently tied up with Chinese IT major Baidu Inc. As the company follows the philosophy of recruiting local persons, all the newcomers in the Nagpur centre would be son of the soil.

Mishra said that people in Nagpur are blessed with immense talent which could be big asset for any organisation. “But we need to give them opportunity and exposure,” he felt. Mishra was expressing his views on the topic – ‘Secrets for scaling IT business globally’ wherein he advised the participants to understand their customers thoroughly. In the session on ‘Water Re-use & Conservation – Air Pollution Challenges – Waste to Wealth’, Dr Rupesh Srivastav, Director Projects, National Mission for Clean Ganga, New Delhi, said work at significant number of sites under the clean Ganga project are nearing completion. Vikram W Naidu, Chaired the track while Dr Atya Kapley, Scientist – CSIR-NEERI, moderated the event.
