A minor boy died by suicide in Hyderabad on Friday after marrying a 20-year-old woman, who also attempted to kill herself, and failing to get their family’s approval of the relationship.
The couple had reportedly secretly married and were staying in a rented room in the city’s Yousufguda area. They took the extreme step in an inebriated state. But the woman survived and the boy, 17, succumbed to death.
Neelima and the boy had met on Facebook and were in a relationship for the last three months. However, as their parents refused their proposal to get married, the couple left home.
On Friday night, they decided to hang themselves following a fight with each other. But, as her hook broke, Neelima fell down, while her minor partner breathed his last. She had then rushed outside to inform the neighbours, who alerted the police without touching the dead body.
“The couple got married a month ago in a temple, but their parents were against their decision. So, they were residing in a rented room. The couple had a fight about the same in a drunken state and decided to kill themselves,” the news report quoted I Chandrashekhar, sub-inspector with the local Jubilee Hills Police Station, as saying.
