Man shoots wife to death in Sakkardara, tries to kill self

Nagpur : In a fit of rage, a 48 year old man, frustrated over piling debt on him, shot dead his wife and also made failed attempt to end his life on Tuesday night in Dattatreya Nagar under jurisdiction of Sakkardara Police Station.

Police sources informed that Ravi Nagpure (48), a resident of Plot No. 164, near Sarveshwar Mandir, Dattatreya Nagar, fired a shot at his wife – Meena (40) – from point blank range, police said. The bullet hit her on the chest and she died instantaneously on the spot.

Immediately after, Ravi turned the gun on his stomach. Hearing the gun shots, neighbours rushed to Nagpure’s house and found the couple lying in pool of blood. They alerted the police.The residents rushed Ravi and his wife to hospital. Doctors pronounced Ravi’s wife dead on arrival while former’s condition is reportedly critical.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone IV Nilesh Bharne said that they have learnt that Nagpure was reeling under debt and his house was also seized by the bank. He has a plywood shop in Manewada.

He was living in a rented accommodation since a month, it is learnt. The incident sent shockwaves across Sakkardara area and large numbers of onlookers gathered at the spot.
