Nagpur: The 2621st Janma Kalyanak Mahotsav of Bhagwan Mahavir, the last Tirthankar of Jain community, was celebrated with solemn resolve to propagate the principles of Ahimsa in today’s world. Several organisations took out rallies in various parts of the city and conducted special pooja at temples to pay obeisance to Bhagwan Mahavir.
The main programme was held by Shree Jain Seva Mandal which also took out a rally form Shree Digamber Jain Temple. The rally passed through Nehru Statue, Shahid Square, Gandhi Statue Square, Chitnavispura, Reshimbagh and culminated at Suresh Bhat Auditorium. Abhishek and other religious activities were held on the occasion. The shobhayatra was welcomed at various places by devotees.
At Mahavir Nagar, a shobhayatra was taken out by Akhil Bharatiya Pulak Manch Pariwar. The programme was managed by Bahubali Event Management and it passed through the colony and culminated at Jain Temple where abhishek was performed to the idol of Bhagwan Mahavir. Various competitions were also held to mark the occasion.
A programme to pay respects to Bhagwan Mahavir was also organised by Patanjali Yog Samiti, Raghuji Nagar, and Jyeshtha Nagarik Mandal, Dattatray Nagar, at Pt Deendayal Garden. Portraits of Bhagwan Mahavir, Mahatma Phule and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar were garlanded.
