Maha Metro to setup coach factory in Wardha District

Nagpur : The Maha Metro has decided to manufacture coaches for Pune Metro at its own coach factory, which is being established at Sindi Railway in Wardha district. The project will be completed in three phases and the first phase work of making DPR with a cost of Rs 300 Crore is nearing its completion.

The Pune Metro will be needing 102 coaches, out of which 75% coaches will be manufactured by Maha Metro in its own factory. The coach factory will be adjoining the JNPT Dry Port. The Maha Metro wants JNPT to join the project as equity partner. If this happens, then Metro will get 50 acres of land without any cost.

The factory will be established in three phases of one DPR each. The total cost of the project will be Rs 600 crore. The first phase will involve assembling; manufacturing will be done in the second phase; while the factory will be completed with raw material works in the third phase.

Executive Manager (Rolling & Stock) of Nagpur Metro Janak Kumar Garg said that the factory will provide job opportunities to many people. Other companies will also establish sub-units in the region. He informed that the factory will be established on PPP model. Along with Maha Metro; JNPT, the State government and private parties will be participating in the project. They will invest in the project and share profit.
