Nagpur : Krishnarao Ramaji Pandav (Patil), a senior Congress leader and former Mayor of Nagpur, passed away on Saturday. He was 88. Born on November 30, 1934, Pandav formed Sanmarg Education Society and established a total of 45 educational institutions across State. His political career started in the year 1969 when he was elected as corporator and became Deputy Mayor in year 1970, Chairman of Standing Committee and Education Committee of NMC in the year 1971 and 1972 respectively.
He bacame Mayor in 1973. Pandav was Member of Legislative Council (MLC) for year 1982-88 and year 1988-94. While he was President of Nagpur City District Congress Committee, he was elevated to the post of General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee in year 1980-81.
He had close associations with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Vasantrao Sathe and Nirmala Deshpande. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had felicitated him with ‘Jivan Gaurav Puraskar’. Pandav leaves behind sons – Girish and Kiran, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss. Funeral procession will start from Flat No. 3, Sanchayati Loknath Tower, near Ramkrishna Math, Dhantoli, on Sunday at 12 noon and proceed to Radhikatai Pandav Engineering College, Umred Road. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Pandav’s residence and expressed condolences. MLA Sudhakar Kohale and Pravin Datke also were present.
