IPL retention and releases: SRH release captain Kane Williamson, and CSK release Dwayne Bravo

Date:

The 10 teams have made a list of the players they would keep before the Indian Premier League mini-auction, which will take place on November 23 in Kochi.

The players who have been released will be put up for auction.

On Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad fired their skipper Kane Williamson, while Chennai Kings let go of longtime veteran Dwayne Bravo.

The day began with veteran West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard of the Mumbai Indians declaring his retirement from the IPL only to be hired as the batting coach of the five-time champion team.

Other significant changes include the release of West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran by Sunrisers Hyderabad and the release of Punjab Kings’ captain from the previous season, Mayank Agarwal.

Up to 13 players, including Kieron Pollard, who announced his retirement earlier in the day, have been freed by the Mumbai Indians.

It’s a very difficult decision. As far as player retention and release is concerned, you are aware that CSK has always had a strong relationship with the players, who have also been making contributions to the franchise.

We find it quite challenging to make decisions when releasing the players.

In the words of CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, “The contribution they have made to CSK will always be cherished and we know that if there is a possibility for any of them to come back, they will be back in CSK colours.”

Kasi made it plain that Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the star of CSK, will serve as the team’s captain.

Everyone is aware that Thalaiva (Dhoni) will captain the team, and he will give it his all so that they succeed, he said
