New Delhi: Perth. Team India’s winning campaign led by Harmanpreet Kaur in the Womens T20 Cricket World Cup continued in the second match as well. After defeating Australia by 17 runs in the first match, the Indian team beat Bangladesh by 18 runs in the second match played on Monday, registering their second consecutive win in the tournament. In this match, the Indian team lost the toss and scored 142 runs for 6 wickets. Shefali Verma scored the highest 39 runs from 17 balls for the team. In response, Bangladesh’s team could score only 124 runs by losing eight wickets in twenty overs and lost the match by 18 runs. In bowling, Poonam Yadav took three wickets. With this victory, the Indian team has reached the top in their group. The next match of the Indian team is now against New Zealand on 27 February.

Shefali gave a stormy start

Earlier, India lost the wicket of Tania Bhatia (02) in the second over, which completely missed Salma Khatoon’s effort to move the ball forward and was stumped by wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana. Shafali Verma showed an aggressive attitude from the beginning. He started with sixes on fast bowler Jahanara Alam and Salma. Shefali also hit two fours and a six in Jahanara’s second over, while Jemima also hit a six over Nahida Akhtar. Shefali hit his fourth six in Panna’s over but in the same over, Shamima was caught by Sultana. He hit four sixes and two fours in his 17-ball innings.

54 runs scored in Powerplay

India scored 54 for two in the power play. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (08) opened the account with fours on Nahida but Rumana got an easy catch off Ahmed with the emerald ball. India scored just 13 runs in the 11th to 13th over, which put pressure on the team and Jemima was run out trying to take a run. He hit two fours and a six while facing 37 balls. Richa Ghosh (14), playing as a substitute for Smriti, ended the 32-ball boundary drought with two consecutive fours over Fatima Khatoon. However, she was caught by Nahida at long on in an attempt to play a big shot off Salma in the 17th over.

Only 35 runs scored in the last five overs.

Deepti Sharma was also run out after scoring 11 runs. Deepti played the shot and returned after coming for the second run but before reaching the crease, Veda Krishnamurthy (20 not out from 11 balls) reached inside the crease and Deepti had to return to the pavilion. Veda increased the run pace with three fours on Nahida in the 18th over but only 13 runs were scored in the last two overs. Through the innings of Shefali Verma (39) and Jemima Rodriguez (34), India was in a good position at 107 for four in 15 overs but the team could only add 35 runs in the last five overs.
