New Delhi: Australia’s great cricketer Ian Chappell said on Sunday that Indian batsmen would have to strike a balance between vigilance and aggression in New Zealand’s challenging conditions. Chappell’s opinion, however, contradicts Virat Kohli ‘s opinion after the first Test defeat, in which the Indian captain said, “I don’t think to be over-cautious or taking precaution will help as it can leave you playing some shots.”
Chappell wrote in ESPNcricinfo, “New Zealand has a quicker wicket like England and requires more caution than Australia.” He said, “Whatever the reason, the batting of the No.1 ranked team (India) in the Basin Reserve was very poor, failing to reach 200 runs in both innings.”

Chappell said that it is not so easy to put the batting order properly. He said, “It is important to strike the right balance and take the player to a place where he is comfortable, which increases the chances of success.”

Talking about Cheteshwar Pujara, he said, ‘It is difficult to criticize the number three batsman as he was very important in India’s victory in Australia in 2018-19. He normally bats before Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal and Kohli. He is the ideal player at number three to balance.
