Hyderabad: Indigo flight suffers tyre burst while landing
Air traffic in Bengaluru was adversely affected following a mishap at the Hyderabad airport, where an IndiGo aircraft suffered a tyre-burst.
At least 20 flights to and from Bengaluru were affected as the Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport turned non-operational last night, following the mishap.
At least 10 flights scheduled to reach Hyderabad airport between 10:28 pm to 2:22 am last night were diverted to the Bengaluru International Airport. Four other Hyderabad-bound planes from Bengaluru returned mid-route.
The stranding of the IndiGo aircraft at the Hyderabad airport for at least four hours caused a cascading effect, as several flights scheduled to reach the Bengaluru airport had to be diverted as the terminals were already handling the diverted Hyderabad-bound flights.
At least four flights from Bengaluru were diverted to Chennai, and one each to Mumbai and Coimbatore, the airport officials said.
The mishap at Hyderabad airport was caused after the IndiGo’s 7117 flight, ferrying 73 passengers, suffered a tyre-burst at around 10:25 pm on Wednesday. The flight was had taken off from Tirupati airport at 8:55 pm.
All passengers were safely evacuated after the mishap, the officials at Hyderabad airport confirmed.
