Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), that is always under fire for not maintaining its hospitals and dispensaries, is getting technical and financial help of Tata Trust to improve the present infrastructure to create patient-friendly environment in these establishments.
With this magnanimous help, the Smart City can have Smart Dispensaries and Health Centres envisaged under National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). This has also increased the number of patients in these Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC).
This is a pilot project of Tata Trust, one of the oldest, non-sectarian philanthropic organisation, working in the several fields for last several years. Tata Trust has improved the basis infrastructure of these health posts by installing air conditions to create better working conditions for the employees and patients.
There is a separate area for registration of patients and waiting area has proper chairs. The system is digitized and every patient gets token number to visit the doctor. His/her data is digitally stored for next visits. Tata Trust delegates are making these small but effective changes in the health posts to improve the treatment quality.
Tata Trust has also ensured improvement in the existing infrastructure of Health posts. Buildings got a new quote of paint, vitrified tiles have been used in place of old tiles and available space has been demarcated to give a corporate look or private clinic look. The trust has taken help of architects for maximum utilization of available space in the present infrastructure and they have done miracle.
NMC is providing health facilities for just Rs 10 per patient with free medicines. The blood sugar test, Hemoglobin tests and other facilities are also available at rates much cheaper than private hospitals. The vaccination is also provided to children at nominal cost.
