Google Doodle celebrates 131st birth anniversary of Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu, one of the world’s first female engineers. Born on 10 November 1887 in Galati, Romania, Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu worked as an assistant at the Geological Institute of Romania and joined Red Cross during World War 1.
After the war she returned to the Geological Institute after the war and participated in various field studies, including some that identified new resources of coal, shale, natural gas, chromium, bauxite and copper. Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu was the first woman member of General Association of Romanian Engineers and retired in 1963. Elisa Leonida died at the age of 86 on 25 November 1973.
