Elections to 1,166 gram panchayats to be held on Oct 13

Elections to 1,166 gram panchayats in 82 tehsils from 18 districts in Maharashtra would be held on October 13 to elect members to Sarpanchs. The code of conduct has been imposed at the tehsils concerned. The counting of voters would be done on October 14, announced UPS Madan, State Election Commissioner, on Wednesday.

Madan informed that the the Tehsildars concerned will publish election notice on September 13 while aspiring candidates will file nomination papers  from September 21 to 27, excluding September 24 and 25 being holidays. The scrutiny of papers would be done on September 28 while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 30 upto 3 pm. The election symbols would also be allotted on the same day, he pointed out.

The polling would be held on October 13 from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm. The timing for polling in Naxal-infested areas would be upto 3 pm. The elections will be held in Vidarbha at 1 gram panchayat in Chikhaldara in Amravati district, 1 gram panchayat in Washim tehsil in Washim district, 3 gram panchayats in Ramtek tehsil, 6 in Bhiwapur, 8 in Kuhi tehsil in Nagpur district, 2 in Wardha tehsil, 7 in Arvi in Wardha district, 2 in Bhadravati, 4 in Chimur, 3 in Mul, 29 in Jivati, 25 in Koparna, 30 in Rajura, 1 in Brahmapuri in Chandrapur district, 1 in Tumsar, 16 in Bhandara tehsil, 2 in Paoni, 1 in Sakoli in Bhandara district, 1 in Deori, 1 in Goregaon, 1 in Gondia tehsil, 1 in Sadak-Arjuni, 2 in Arjuni-Mor in Gondia district, 2 in Chamorshi, 2 in Aheri, 6 in Dhanora, 4 in Bhamragad, 2 in Desaiganj, 2 in Etapalli and 1 in Gadchiroli tehsil of Gadchiroli district. The remaining polling would be held in rest of Maharashtra, Madan added.
