Nagpur: Dr. Ajay Ambade (Dept of Ophthalmology, Ambade Eye Hospital) from Nagpur was selected for the most prestigious research conference of the world ‘Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology’ 2018 (ARVO). He was practicing sinceĀ 2005 in Nagpur. This was second consecutive year they are presenting post paper their in ARVO.
About ARVO
ARVO is the largest and most respected eye and vision research organization in the world. They have members include nearly 12,000 researchers from over 75 countries.
This year paper was accepted and well appreciated. Their theme was āAnti VEGF injection in treatment of Type-1 ROPā.
What is ROP ?
Retinopathy Of Prematurity also called as Retrolental Fibroplasia (RLF) is the stage in which the new born babies how are underweight(1200 grams and below) or premature(near 7 months), there eyes are affected generally having intensive neonatal care, in which oxygen therapy is used on them due to premature development of their lungs. This is caused by disorganized growth of retinal blood vessels which may result in scarring and retinal detachment.
ARVO was surprised knowing about remote areas like Nagpur has same theme paper and also good centers are their where the children less then 7 months or near are surviving. These babies are mainly targeted for such complications.
Getting mentored under two great Doctors, Dr. Natrajan and Dr. TP Das was very helpful and knowledgeable, says Dr. Ambade.
Dr. Ambade also leaves a message for nagpurians saying; Good things are going in Nagpur, but we need to work hard and put lots of efforts in the field of research.
