Dozee and Marque Hospital Leaders of Nagpur Convene to Raise Awareness on the Importance of Monitoring Beyond Icus

Date:

Nagpur: Dozee, India’s leading AI-based contactless remote patient monitoring (RPM) and early warning system (EWS) provider, recently organized a symposium with renowned doctors in Nagpur to discuss the role of technology in healthcare. The symposium on “Monitoring Beyond ICU,” aimed to raise awareness about enhancing patient safety in hospitals by automating vitals monitoring beyond intensive care units.

The conference brought together seven esteemed medical practitioners and experts from
local hospitals, including Dr. Ajay Motwani, New Era Hospital, Mr. Venkateshwarlu Marapaka – HCG, Mr. Walmik Wankhede – Kingsway KIMS Hospital, Stephen Thomas, Head Admin CIIMS hospitals, Dr. Deshmukh from Nelson Hospitals and representatives from Aureus Hospitals, Meditrina Hospitals were part of the meet. The panel unanimously agreed that Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) & Early Warning System (EWS) technology is the future of patient care and holds great potential to reduce morbidity and mortality rates. They also felt that this technology can help bridge the gap between primary and tertiary care by providing real-time data to doctors. Dozee plans to continue such initiatives to promote the use of its RPM & EWS technology in hospitals across India.

India is one of the most populous countries in the world, with over 1.4 billion people. Healthcare in India is a complex and growing sector, with many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is access to quality care. In many parts of India, healthcare facilities are understaffed and lack essential resources. This results in poor quality care for patients. Additionally, there is a lack of trained healthcare workers, which further contributes to the problem. According to the 2021 NITI Aayog report, India currently has 1.3 hospital beds per 1,000 population. There is also a shortage of skilled health workers, with 0.65 physicians per 1,000 people (the World Health Organisation standard is 1 per 1,000 people) and 1.3 nurses per 1,000 people, putting immense stress on the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

Mr. Venkateshwarlu Marapaka – HCG said, “There is a growing need to have more
comprehensive and continuous monitoring of patients, not just in the ICU but also in the wards. This will help us identify deteriorating patients early and intervene accordingly. It is quite heartening to see Dozee bringing advanced technology for patients to remotely monitor their vital parameters when they have been critically ill or have the potential to get critical after getting shifted outside the ICU. The installation of such devices outside ICUs, in step-down ICUs, and in general wards across the hospital provides timely alerts and reports in case of emergencies to doctors and helps prevent the deterioration of the patient’s condition. This will provide healthcare practitioners more confidence with vital parameters of patients at their fingertips elevating a patient-centered approach. Such devices can also help people stay abroad to monitor their elderly parent’s health from afar”.

Mr. Walmik Wankhede – Kingsway KIMS Hospital, emphasized that monitoring beyond ICUs is essential for transforming healthcare in India. He noted the potential to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of care, ensure equal access for rural and remote areas, and enhance patient safety by reducing unexpected deteriorations and code blue events. He acknowledged the role of Dozee in enabling continuous patient monitoring, extending care beyond hospital settings, and promoting a continuum of care for patients at home.

Mudit Dandwate, CEO & Co-Founder of Dozee, reiterated the company’s commitment to making RPM and EWS accessible to all, particularly those vulnerable to critical health deterioration. He emphasized the collaborative effort with doctors and medical professionals to make a significant impact on the lives of millions. Dozee is actively developing building, and supporting healthcare providers to improve patient safety and drive the widespread adoption of technology, addressing both present and future healthcare needs.

Some of the key points that were discussed during the round table conference are as follows: 1. There is a growing need for Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) & Early Warning Systems (EWS) in Indian hospitals as the number of patients in ICUs is increasing rapidly. 2. RPM & EWS can help in the early detection of critical health events and can help save lives. 3. RPM & EWS can also help reduce the length of hospital stay and the overall cost of treatment. 4. RPM & EWS are very effective tools for monitoring patients post-discharge from the hospital. 5. There is a need for more awareness about RPM & EWS among doctors and hospitals so that more patients can benefit from this technology.

The symposium served as an important platform for knowledge-sharing and emphasized the crucial role of remote patient monitoring and early warning systems in revolutionizing healthcare practices beyond the ICU. Dozee remains dedicated to furthering the adoption of RPM and EWS technology to positively impact patient care across India.
