Asian Games 2018 : Shuttler PV Sindhu beats Yamaguchi in women team quarterfinals

The second day of sporting events at the 18th edition of the Asian Games 2018 has started in Indonesia on August 20, Monday.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia who is 2014 defending champion, dedicated his gold medal to Late former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. He bagged India’s first gold medal in the 65 kg Men’s Freestyle event on Day 1 (Sunday). He thrashed Japan’s Daichi Takatani 11-8 in the final round.

“Congratulations @BajrangPunia for the memorable victory in the 65 kg freestyle wrestling. This win is even more special because it is India’s first Gold in the @asiangames2018. Best wishes for your future endeavours. #AsianGames2018”, PM Modi tweeted to express his joy on the first gold medal.

On the other hand shooters Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar opened the account for India by winning the bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed team event. They had scored 429.9 to finish for third spot in the final.

Meanwhile, Shuttler PV Sindhu beat Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-18, 21-19 in Women’s Team Quarterfinals in Badminton.

Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat will take to the mat on Day 2 of the Asian Games 2018.

India’s Dushyant has qualified for the final Men’s Lightweight Single Sculls, string with a time of 7:43.08.
