New Delhi: Nishant Agarwal, a junior scientist working in DRDO’s Nagpur lab, who was arrested on charges of alleged spying by Uttar Pradesh ATS, was reportedly lured with a job offer of $30,000 per month in Canada.
According to a report, Agarwal was asked for ‘specimens’ of his work when he complied and shared sensitive data. The ATS, on Monday, arrested Agarwal for leaking classified information to Pakistan’s ISI. A Nagpur Court on Tuesday granted the ATS, a three-day remand of Agarwal. He may be booked under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
According to thereport, Agarwal, a junior scientist at the BrahMos facility in Nagpur, was in touch with one Sejal Kapoor, a Canada-based woman. He would frequently chat with her on Facebook. Kapoor invited Agarwal to connect with her on LinkedIn and subsequently sent him a link so that Agarwal could talk to her seniors.
The link reportedly downloaded classified information from Agarwal’s computer. Agarwal also chatted with another woman, one ‘Neha Sharma’ on Facebook. The link to the account was traced to Pakistan.
