IRCTC to Install POS Machines on Trains for Compulsory Billing of Food!

Following several criticisms by passengers, including being overcharged, the Indian Railways is aggresively advocating transparency.

We recently wrote about a new policy which allows passengers to refuse payment for the food they have consumed if they haven’t received a bill, and now, new Point of Sale (POS) machines, will make sure you get a bill, leaving a zero margin for overcharging.

The IRCTC Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has come up with this concept of compulsory billing of food, on trains, to combat rampant overcharging.

The pilot project has been implemented on the SBC-NDLS Karnataka Express. A 100 more POS machines, will be commissioned on another 26 trains, in the next phase, says the Indian Railways.

The Railways has an interesting on-ground, yet hi-tech way of collecting feedback. Officials wielding tablets travel aboard trains, to monitor catering services, and collect passenger feedback.

Piyush Goyal, the Union Railway Minister, has directed the Railways, to implement this policy by March 31, 2018. The IRCTC Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has put the required information up on their website, for passengers who look to book tickets.
