A series of raids by the Food and Drug Administration office from November 1 exposed the possession of suspected adulterated stock worth Rs 74 lakh 95 thousand by the city’s different traders. The seized materials include spices, betel nut and tea powder.
Black pepper weighing 11 thousand 161 kg worth Rs 58.3 lakh was seized from M Kamakhya Enterprises of Waddhamna, 2 thousand 94 kg Betel Nut worth Rs 9. 59 lakh was seized from Jayalalji Traders in Bharatwada, Betel Nut weighing 1 thousand 916 kg worth Rs 7.30 lakh was seized from Amir Gruha of Shanti Nagar, 1.4 Kg Kharra (powdered concoction containing Betel Nut (Supari), Tobacco Flakes and Calcium Hydroxide (Lime/Choona) worth Rs 1K was seized from M Saikrupa Pan shop and Cold Drinks in Manewada, 3 kgs tea powder worth Rs 840 was seized from Saikrupa Amruttulya from Manewada. The stock seized from five traders totalled 15 thousand 175 kg worth Rs 74 lakh 95 thousand.
Hudkeshwar police station has registered a case under the relevant sections.
All food items have been seized and food samples have been sent to food analysts for testing. As soon as the analysis report is received, further action will be taken against the concerned as per Food Safety and Standards Act. This action was conducted under the guidance of the Joint Commissioner of Nagpur Division S G Annaputre.
