Harley-Davidson has been a roll this year! One of the reasons was the brand-new Softail range for 2018. While the existing models such as the Fat Bob, Fat Boy and Street Bob saw a complete makeover, there were a few new models added as well. The latest Softail model to join the range was the Harley-Davidson Softail Slim. It was first introduced in 2012 and carries a retro design with a minimalist theme thrown in for good measure. The Softail Slim is a bike which draws inspiration from the ’40s post-war surplus Harley-Davidson Bobber bikes.
The bike stays true to its post-war heritage with fat tyres, black spokes and most importantly, minimal use of chrome. It is an all-new model from Harley and benefits from the 2018 Softail chassis that other bikes get. In comparison to the previous model, the 2018 Softail Slim loses almost 16 kg. The ground clearance has increased but the stance of the bike is low, giving it a sporty look. Then of course, the modern bits are there, which include new LED lights and Harley’s Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. The engine is a 1,745 cc V-Twin which is air/oil cooled and makes a massive 145 Nm of torque at a very lowly 3,500 rpm. The bike gets Showa telescopic forks upfront and a mono-shock at the rear.
The seat height is a low 660 mm and the Harley-Davidson bike weighs in at 304 kg. Internationally, the bike will be available in five colors and the prices start at GBP 16,045 ( ₹ 13.93 lakh). A month ago, Harley launched four new Softail models in India and the Softail Slim could be a very addition to the line-up here.
