Helmet mandatory for two-wheeler riders visiting Maharashtra govt offices

Date:

NAGPUR: The next time you visit any government offices across Maharashtra, make sure you are wearing a helmet as the Maharashtra government has made it mandatory for all two-wheeler riders to follow rules or face action. Regional transport offices across the state have been assigned to implement the order.

In a notification issued by transport commissioner (Maharashtra) Avinash Dhakne, the new rule has been introduced for effective implementation of road safety. It has been observed that that most of the citizens who come for various works in government offices and even their staff are driving two-wheelers without helmets.

“The use of helmets while driving is very important from the point of view of road safety and it has been observed that most of the riders who are injured or killed in two-wheeler accidents are traveling without helmets. Therefore, there should be a comprehensive awareness and implementation campaign on the use of helmets in our area of work,” stated Dhakne.

“Citizens should be sensitized about the use of helmets with the help of district administration. All government, semi-government offices, educational and other institutions should be involved in this campaign,” the transport commissioner stated.

Even after this, under the Motor Vehicles Act, appropriate action should be initiated against the citizens and staff officers who were found driving two-wheelers without helmets while coming to the government offices. The TC also directed all RTOs to submit an action taken report with its office in Mumbai, confirmed a senior official from the transport department in Nagpur.
