Throwing water balloons on Holi may land you in police net

Date:

Nagpur: This Holi, a person throwing water balloons at someone without their consent will be booked under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, said commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar during the peace committee meeting convened ahead of Shab-e-Barat and Holi.

“Nagpur police are geared up to ensure citizens celebrate Holi and Shab-e-Barat peacefully,” said the CP. Strict action will be taken against those riding triple seat on two-wheelers, speeding, and unnecessarily honking, warned the CP.

“If a driver is found driving under the influence of liquor, we will find out from where he got the alcohol, where he consumed it, does he possess the requisite license, and other persons will also be charged with selling liquor without a license,” said the CP.

The top cop presided over the meeting attended by joint commissioner of police Aswati Dorje, and additional commissioner of police (crime) Sunil Fulari among others.

Police will be deployed at important places in the city on the eve of Holi from Thursday noon itself. “There will be road blockades at 90 places across the city. Around 4,500 police personnel including seven deputy commissioners of police, 10 assistant commissioners of police, 40 inspectors, 208 APIs and sub-inspectors, 1,843 police constables, 190 women police personnel, two companies of State Reserve Police Force, Crime Branch, and Special Branch Police will be deployed,” Kumar said.

Special ‘Damini’ crime squad will also be deployed in the city to track down those harassing women. Police patrols have been intensified in sensitive areas, said the top cop.

To ensure a peaceful Holi, the city police has also compiled a list of 150 criminals involved in anti-social activities during the festival of colours. The city police have started their detention since Wednesday evening. The CP has further appealed to citizens to celebrate the festival of colour peacefully.
