Nagpur: Waking up to the nylon manja menace growing rampantly in the city, police have on Monday cracked down on the nylon manja sale and arrested five traders from Sakkardara, Nandanvan and Mankapur police station areas.
Those arrested by Sakkardara police are — Pawan Anil Mahajan (22), a resident of Plot No. 38, Saraswati Nagar, Umred Road Bahadura; Atul Kothiram Devgade (24), a resident ofPandhurna village of Kamptee tehisl; Abdul Naim Abdul Gani (51), a resident of Sartaj Colony, BadaTajbagh and Jakir HaidarAli Khan (28),a resident of Azad Colony, Bada Tajbagh and seized 10 reels of nylon manja from their possession.
Similarly, Nandanvan police arrested Rohina B Mohd Yunus (24), a resident of Hasanbagh for selling nylon manja. The cops seized whopping 756 bundles of nylon manja worth Rs 1.46 lakh from her possession. In another raid, Mankapur police arrested a man and seized nine reels of nylon manja worth Rs 10,000 from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Mahadev Vithoba Raut (57), a resident of plot No. 18, Doye Layout, Geeta Nagar. Offences under Sections 5, 15 of the Environment Protection Act and Sections 188 and 290 of Indian Penal Code have been registered against the traders.
