Nagpur : Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will soon set up ‘Potoba’ stalls in all 38 prabhags in the city, to provide not only good food to citizens but also self-employment opportunity to women’s self-help groups.
The decision was taken in the meeting of Woman and Child Welfare Committee of NMC on Friday. Pragati Patil, Chairperson of the committee, presided over the meeting. According to her, the idea behind setting up the stalls is to improve financial health of poor and needy women and to provide self-employment opportunity to them. The stalls will be made of bamboos.
The women will be able to sell delicious food to citizens at these stalls, Patil said. The food stalls will be available in all the prabhags and run by self-help groups. The civic body plans to make ‘Potoba’ a brand of quality food.
In the meeting, the committee members discussed about proposed exhibition for women entrepreneurs. The exhibition will be held in January 2019. Further, they discussed distribution of e-rickshaws to needy people. Social Welfare Department of NMC will distribute e-rickshaws by inviting applications from the needy.
The committee also gave its nod to a proposal regarding extending benefits of ‘Laadli Laxmi Yojana’ to one girl child of labourer who died in accident during construction of Nagpur Metro. The committee passed the proposal unanimously. Vishakha Bante, Deputy Chairperson of the committee; members Divya Dhurde, Sarita Kawre, Manisha Atkare, and Dr Ranjana Lade, Deputy Commissioner, were present in the meeting held at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Hall in NMC’s Civil Lines office.
