Nagpur: As per the directions of Maharashtra Government, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will grant temporary permission for regularization of mobile towers in city.
Nagpur city has around 800 mobile towers and presently, the civic body is not generating any revenue from the towers due tendency of a public interest litigation (PIL) in Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court. It is assumed that the local body will earn Rs 10 crore per annum from the regularization of the towers for one year.
Sanjay Bangale, Chairman of Estate and Project Committee directed Town Planning Department to start issuing notices to mobile companies for regularisation of the towers. Bangale, who is close to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, personally took up the agenda with State Government to generate income for NMC by regularizing mobile towers. He hoped that this will generate a good revenue for NMC.
Recently, Urban Development Department has issued notification for regularization of towers in Nagpur. As per the directions, mobile towers will have to obtain conditional permission of the civic body to collect all the documents necessary for the final permission. The civic body will give conditional permission by recovering charges of Rs 2 lakh per annum for tower erected in sanction buildings and Rs 3 lakh for tower erected in unauthorized buildings. They also have to pay 18 per cent interest per annum from the year 2014 to 2018.
Sanjay Bangale also said, if the companies failed to obtain permission in a year, then earlier permission will stand cancelled. He expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister for the decision
