Nagpur : Crime Branch have cracked a theft case of betel nut with arrest of a dozen accused persons. The investigations were wrapped-up within 24 hours of report of theft of 60 sacks of betel nut kept in godown by owner Vijay Amser (47), a resident of Chhapru Nagar, Nagpur.
Amser lodged his complaint on November 28 about thefts
of sacks of betel nut from the godown. Crime Branch team worked on the case and got tip off about involvement of a few persons who were picked-up. During questioning the dozen of accused admitted to involvement in the theft.
The accused persons said they would filch a few sacks at a time to avoid arousing suspicion. The sacks used to be transported in a small vehicle that was also seized by the cops. The accused persons would then sell the stolen betel nut to three traders from whom the recovery was done promptly by Crime Branch team.
The accused persons are Sandesh alias Gaurav Manohare (24), Kamlesh Yadav (30), Hukumchand Shahu (23), Mukesh alias Nanhe Sankale (26), Wasim Sheikh (22), Bhimrao Ghumde (22), Chandan Thakur (22), Mithun Shrirame (29), Lakshman Somani (23), Nilesh alias Golu Kakde (25), Sonu Pathak (24) and Suraj Lanjewar (22), all residents of Kumbhartoli, under jurisdiction of Nandanwan police station. A Tata Ace vehicle and a Mahindra three-wheeler that was used in crime were also seized by the cops.
The 3,600 kgs of betel nut worth Rs 5.04 lakh was recovered from the three traders. The case was detected by Crime Branch’s Unit No 3 headed by Inspector Jagendrasingh Rajput, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Dyaneshwar Bhedodkar, Woman Police Sub-Inspector (WPSI) Mangala Mokashe, Head Constables Shatrughna Kadu, Shailesh Thawre, Anil Dubey, and Suresh Hingnekar, Naik Police Constables (NPCs) Shyam Kadu and Atul Dawande, constables Milind Narsanne, Sheikh Firoz. Deputy Commissioners of Police, Crime Branch, Shewta Khedkar, DCP (Detection) Sambhaji Kadam and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kamble supervised the investigations.
