Nagpur : Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is mulling a proposal to appoint private contractors for collection of property tax from the owners. Presently, more than 100 employees of local body are collecting property tax from the owners. The local body is eyeing to collect Rs 870 crore in the current financial year with the help of private contractors.
Virendra Kukreja, Standing Committee Chairman said, “We have directed Property Tax Department to prepare a proposal for appointment of contractors to collect property tax. The NMC will give them incentive for collection of tax above Rs 350 crore.” Meanwhile, the Department has distributed three lakh demands out of the 4.07 lakh demands generated by Cyber tech Company.
As against this dismal and disappointing performance, the Standing Committee set a very high target of Rs 870 crore from property tax including recovery of areas worth Rs 470 crore and Rs 400 crore from present year’s demand.” Briefing about another proposal, Kukreja said, “We will drill 347 bore wells to get more water during summer and have directed Water Works Department to identify the spots for borewells. The corporators will also review the list prepared by the Department.”
“Also Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) will dedicate Nari, Wanjara and Chinchbhuvan over head water tanks by November 30 for public use. The date for dedication of remaining Kalamna over head water tank will be decided later, Kukreja said. NMC will also construct 43 over head water tanks and 1 ground water tank under AMRUT scheme. Central Government and State Government have sanctioned Rs 273 crore for strengthening water network,” he informed.
