Not even two weeks have passed and a lot of people are already finding interest in the majestic statue. Being the tallest statue in the world, the Statue of Unity has attracted people from all walks of life. People are coming and celebrating the unity of India near the 182-metre- high structure.
In the past ten days, lakhs of people have already visited Narmada to witness the iconic statue.But on Saturday, over 27,000 people visited the Sardar Patel Memorial, the highest since the Sardar Patel memorial was inaugurated. Narmada district Collector R S Ninama, while confirming that 27,000 tourists visited Saturday, said the administration was expecting the figure to go further up.
With a cap of 5,000 visitors per day at the viewing gallery inside the statue the Gujarat Government is asking tourists to plan their trip in advance. “The two lifts at the Statue of Unity can carry up to 5,000 people in a day to the observation deck (viewing gallery). Therefore, all visitors are requested to plan their visits keeping in mind the timings as well as the capacity of the infrastructure,” a government statement said.
“It is a request to the people of Gujarat to plan their visits in a way that there is no overcrowding and no one comes back disappointed from the Statue of Unity visit,” it added.In a statement, the state government appealed to the visitors “to plan their trip keeping in mind the timing as well as the capacity of the infrastructure at the Statue of Unity.”
The government statement also informed visitors that the memorial remains closed every Monday for maintenance. Apart from the statue, people can go to the Visitors Centre, souvenir shop, exhibition hall, viewing gallery among other attractions.
