Nagpur : Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will release around Rs 64 crore towards pending payment of the contractors. Standing Committee has taken the decision to disburse funds of Rs 150 crore received from the State Government.
Virendra Kukreja, NMC’s Standing Committee chief, while talking to mediapersons after a meeting of the committee, stated that presently, around Rs 162 crore dues of contractors are pending. The committee has decided to release 40 per cent of the total dues.
Kukreja also said that all payment would be released by Diwali. “We will spread joy of Diwali festivity among every person working with the local body,” he added.
It may be mentioned that contractors are agitating for last several weeks for their dues pending with the civic body.
Meanwhile, the Standing committee has decided to release pending dues of Rs 14.72 crore to contractors of Aapli Bus. Kukreja said, “We are releasing 100 per cent payment of Transport Department.”
Civic body will also release payment of Rs 13.67 crore to other agencies working with the NMC. The committee has also cleared the proposal to release 40 per cent payment out of total Rs 10.40 crore to the contractors of water tankers. The committee will also release payment of Rs 3 crore out of total dues of Rs 8.47 crore for JNNURM works.
