Nagpur: The 11th Urban Mobility Conference (UMI) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis at Chitanvis Centre, here on Friday.
The Union Transport, Shopping and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri were special guests on the occasion. The 3-day conference has been organised by Institute of Urban Transport under the age is of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Government of Maharashtra and Maha Metro are jointly hosting the event. The union Housing and urban affairs secretary Durga Shanker Mishra chief secretary DK Jain, the ambassadors of France and Germany Mr. Alexandre and Mr. Martin were also present during the inaugural session.
The theme of the 3-day conference is ‘Green Urban Mobility’ which is very apt and timely as the situation is quite ripe to bring in a holistic shift towards alternate and active mobility measures. The conference is attended by about 300 national and international speakers/ delegates.
The conference provides forum for interactions and discussions around case studies to assist cities, whose officials attend the conference, in keeping themselves up to date with best urban transport practices around the world and to carry home ideas to develop their urban transport along a sustainable path.
An expo which covers latest technologies and trends in fields of Metro Construction, Rail Technology has also been organised along with the Conference. The expo will also provide business opportunities, skill India issues, start-up trends etc. and will prove to be a great Knowledge Sharing platform for the participants. Technical sessions on various current and different topics have also been organised as part of the conference.
