Dr Vinay Hazarey receives UICC fellowship at World Cancer Congress Malaysia 2018

Nagpur : Dr.Vinay Hazarey Ex. Dean Govt. Dental College & Hospital Nagpur and Secretary No Tobacco association received UICC (International Union For Cancer Control) at recently held World Cancer Congress at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. He was invited to present his original work “ Cancer Free Constituency” and ” Self Mouth Mirror Examination A Boon to prevent Oral Cancer and Pre Cancer ”. This was a report based on survey which was initiatives of Cancer Free Constituency by Mr. Ashish Deshmukh,Then MLA from Katol constituency. About 300,000 rural population was sensitized in house to house survey .5100 persons were examined by medical and dental professionals in 10 camps conducted in collaboration with Deputy Director Health services.

The examination was done using mammography van and mobile dental van.Total 25 cancer cases including 12 oral cancer cases were detected and treated by tertiary referral medical and dental colleges and cancer hospitals. It was also noted that there is high prevalence of smokeless tobacco chewing habits which resulted in higher rate of occurrence of Oral Precancers including Oral Sub Mucous fibrosis (Inability to Open Mouth).The presentations were well received at this global conference where2500 experts from 120 countries participated . As a part of fellowship, No Tobacco Association, the NGO receives prestigious UICC membership which helps to interact with experts from all over world and research grants for community health awareness and cancer research.

Dr Vinay Hazarey also participated in recently held International summit on Oral Sub Mucous fibrosis at Vadodara India where experts from UK US Sri Lanka and India participated.Dr Hazarey spoke on various aspects of OSF which is now being called as Indian’s Diseases because of chewing areca nut and tobacco and combinations such as Pan Masala,Gutkha and Kharra.This and other pre cancers and subsequent oral cancer are preventable if tobacco and areca nut habits are stopped by public awareness and early detection by health professionals.
